New 110 questions

Lowe's wont care about the scratches. They'll get you in and out with a good one and you'll be happy. Just present your problem and select another package. Even ask if you can open the blister package while they wait for you to check it out for quality. They'll send the bad one back to Buck for credit and Buck will refurb and sell it. It's a win for you (new knife), Lowe's (you happy), and Buck (Lowe's happy).

You're worrying way too much over nothing. Lowes will undoubtedly exchange the knife. Even if they don't, Buck will fix it. The turn around time will be less than the promised 6 - 8 weeks. Even if it's 8 weeks, you've gone a lifetime without the knife already.

I know it's today's reality that we expect perfect blade centering, Swiss watch like precision, and instant reward, all for a price that hasn't changed in thirty years. Patience and an understanding of how things really work are long-gone traits. Videos of our grievances just lead to further deterioration as they just reinforce the meme.

Thank you for the reply. Let me clarify things. I realize that 6-8 weeks is not a long time. I’ve waited months on end to get a crk back for warranty work before. I was just simply stating that I was hesitant to send it in over taking it back because of the turn around time.

Also... I do not expect perfect blade centering or Swiss watch like centering in a 45$ knife. Heck I do not expect it from a 100$ knife. I have owned plenty of Benchmade a with the same issues. I was just very surprised that the blade was flopping around in the handle when closed. I do not feel at though this is ok, even if the knife cost 20$.

I also do not expect an instant reward. I am not some millennial that expects instant gratification either. Just simply came here to get some advice towards a direction to take. I have been on this forum for quite some time and I understand people come here to vent, or praise a product or service. That’s what we come here for.

I did not make the videos to show my “grievances”. But rather made them to simply show what I was describing. Because......if I wold not have made the videos, people would be asking for some type of proof as to what I was describing. Simply posted them for others to see, and possibly tell me that it is normal with this particular knife.

To sit there and assume that I do not have “patience and understanding of how things work” is just purely an absurd thing to say. Especially when you know absolutely nothing about me.

It’s posts like yours that make me dislike this particular forum and choose to stay away sometimes.
If we cannot come together to a local spot to discuss issues, ideas, or problems about a hobby that we clearly all love, then what is this forum for??

If it helps to have a reason for the return with scratches, tell them it slipped out of your hand because it was loose.

I'm for taking the quickest, easiest and cheapest route to be happy. :)

hahaha. I dropped it when I was getting the camera ready with one hand and it was sitting on my leg. Then kaboom it hit and slid across the floor.

There is next to no blade play when it’s open. Feels nice and fairly solid. It’s just when closed the blade literally flops around. It will move with its own weight when the knife is turned.

I've noticed this on a few of my lockback and midlock knives like the 532s. loose closed, tight open. not sure what causes it. I also noticed on a couple pocket clip version 110 it becomes loose from i expect the way it sits and gets tugged from being in the pocket. still tight lockup though. weird, right?

the good news is I have a decade old 110 like this. loose closed, tight open. i use it as a beater and its held up fine so far. you didn't miss anything. Bucks still making quality, this problem is rare from my experience and its just hit and miss. i have a lot of 110s and very few are like this in my collection.

I expect your next wont do this unless lowes has a whole run that slipped through? let's hope not.

Gasp......oh my God.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
I just checked all mine and they all wiggle! ...….With the exception of my auto.
I wasn't even aware of this problem!
THANK-YOU!

I might need to take something in order to sleep tonite.

Return it and be happy. Can't get any easier than that. No knife is going to be perfect. When you get a new one check it before you go home. Make sure you get what you want. They will get loose after you use it for a while anyway.

I’m just having bad luck all around. I was trying to get ready to video and I dropped it on the cement floor!! Looks like I’m sending it to buck now. Not going to return a knife with scratches on it!

I made a YouTube video. Here is the link.

At first I thought this was just to post here. Even though a video wasn't required. Is this posted publicly?

I assumed nothing from your posts. I read them and responded, that's all.

Another of life's great challenges these days. "I disagree" doesn't mean "You're wrong," or "You're stupid". It means, only, I disagree. You're assigning base motives to my words when none exist.

Lighten up a bit.

Millenials are also known to shout instant dissatisfaction with the speed of their ultra fast internet. Send the offending subject to me, I'll take it to Buck and 10 min later it will be out and shipping back to you,

I converted the post to YouTube because I do not know any other way to get a video on here. It can be seen by those who have the link. I think.

Sounds good.

I think I will try to return it and see if they have another one. If it turns out to be the same result, I will just use it like I intended to when I purchased the first one. Thanks for the offer though.

I edited the title of this thread as to not create any type of negativity towards buck. They have always made a fantastic product, and continue to do so.

Thank you for all the replies and insight.

Went back to Lowe’s and the only other 110 they had was the exact same. I’ve decided that I am going to wait until I can find another store that sells them. Then I will be able to open a few up and check them out. Again...thank you everyone for the help.

I checked my unused 2012 and 2014 110's and they both rattle and make noise when shaken, but they are centered when closed and the tip doesn't even move half the distance towards the liners. All of my older used 110's and 112's have no rattle at all. But, I have an Alaskan Guide that had liner to liner side play until I squeezed it in a soft-jawed vise. Now it is perfect with zero play open or closed. A word of warning about using a vise - you can easily compress the bolster too far and pop the pivot pin loose and proud, requiring a new pin and peening. I learned the hard way on a different knife.

On a side note, when checking for side to side play with the blade locked open, it can feel like there is no play. However, if you release the lock bar and continue to check for play, it often becomes more noticeable.

I wouldn't be happy with it either,I don't have any 110s ( I have roughly 100 or so) that do that.I would not want the knife if it did that simply because the noise of that flopping around would bug me .

It's not normal ,some play is expected but not that much.Return it and Buck will fix it no,problem ,that is why I like Buck so much,at least they make a great effort to help customers!

Weird. But don't despair. You'll get your knife.

I had a 110 with a little wobble when closed (blade could hit both liners).
A rag to prevent scratching/gouging the brass, and pair of channel locks fixed it. Blade is centered, too.
(Squeezing the bolsters together a little while holding the pin on one side, is the same thing Buck will do to fix it.)

Pivot pin sticks out maybe the thickness of 1 to 1.5 sheets copier/typing paper on one side. (I don't have a hammer to peen it)
One of these years, I might send it in to Buck for that. (More than likely I'll just get a daRn peening hammer.)

Why the You Tube Video before giving Buck a chance to fix it, or even before contacting them? A bit unjust, I think.
How many people do you think that video will stop from buying not just a 110, but any Buck knife?
My guess is more than a "few".

IMHO, making and posting that video indicates you do expect perfection (despite what you say to the contrary), no matter what the cost is, and not necessarily just for cutlery.

EDIT:
All my Brass and Wood 110's (except for a vintage 2 dot I found at a pawnshop) were bought at the same store "everyone" loves to bash (yet they still shop there). Of the 9 or 10 I bought, only the one was a little loose when closed. all are tight when open. None of the blades are in danger of hitting the liners, either.

I literally created the thread to ask if this was normal with these. I did not think so since my 20+ year old bucklite 112 is solid with no movement, as well as my bucklite 424a is solid with no movement.

I will reiterate again... I am not expecting perfection. I expect perfection in a 400+ crk. I just did not think that this was normal.
I did not give buck a chance because I only owned the knife for about an hour before I made the post.

I made videos to show what I was talking about. If o did not provide videos, people would have asked for them. They are not public videos. People cannot search for them. The only reason why you can even see them is because I put the link in the thread.
I even went so far as to change the title because, like I already stated, I do not want to bring negativity on Buck.

I do not understand what the issue is here with me expressing my concerns with a knife on a forum about knives.

Shame on me I guess.
