New 112 Ranger by SKBlades

I'm behind times. I didn't realize anything like this existed . A flat grind 110 is something I always thought would be sweet. The 112 is pretty sweet also.

I got mine ordered today! I'm a little bit tempted to send it out for customizing but the D2 is such a rare steel for a 112 it will fit my theme of rare and odd as only 250 will be made.

i got one and im not a big d2 fan but everything else on the knife i like and the d2 done by buck is really well made. youll love yours Sir. skblade did a great job on this one.

So far everything SK has made is been well received and I'm looking to the next 112. To bad Buck doesn't have any more BG42 because a 112 in that steel would be a must have.

This thread reappeared at just the right time as I was considering a Buck 110 with upgraded features. I ordered one of them last night - it's already been shipped by SK. Looking forward to seeing it on Saturday (per the tracking number). OH

I like Micarta! How about an aluminum 112 with green Micarta scales and 154 CM steel? Please, please, please...

I think we'll all look for the next Silver Knight 112. .Try to get a cool new to the 112 emblem. The 110 gets all the neat one's!

What are the advantages of a flat grind vs. the hollow grind on a blade this size? Anyone notice a difference in actual use?

strange, these two models being recently modern I'll use as an example. The top blade a Full flat grind and the bottom a mostly hollow grind. Using these 2 side by side over the last 2 years I've noticed little difference in their cutting performance. Should I grind the bottom blade with a fuller hollow grind. Removing the flats and give it a thinner edge. Then Yes cutting performance is improved to a point where I'd notice it's a step above the flat grind. Plus, belly matters. But that type grind is mostly seen on custom knives. So, a different level, targeting a different customer. Because once you get the blade thinner you don't want someone malleting or forcing it through a material that could damage the blade. Thus, a thicker blade gives insurance against blade replacement and warranty issues. DM

I got mine and I'm really happy with it! I go thru a conflicting time when I get a 112 like this. ..I know it will be a great user and I really want to carry something special but I display odd rare 112's. Should I EDC it for a while and see how D2 works for me or put it right in my display? I'm further conflicted because I KNOW it would be a great start for custom work. I have 2 or 3 folks who I admire there file work and customization and am looking for a worthy 112 to be worked on. This would be a great one to have done! The real problem is that I'm rebuilding my collection for the Blade show in Atlanta this year and I know my funds will be limited. My Uncle Sam is a very good guy (I'm a disabled Navy vet. ) but my pension is stretched thin and there is only so much I can set aside for the show and new 112's. So it's a tough call on this SK exclusive. Only 250 made, D2,nice looking already ...hmm I'll have to think this thru. D2 is such a rare steel for Buck to use I'm really surprised that this run of 250 is not sold out .I will say Steve of SK is doing something I, and perhaps many of us on the forum, could only dream of ...Work directly with Buck to create and design the knives you dream about. I have day dreamed of winning the lottery and having the chance to sit down with Buck excutives to develop new and exciting knives like he has. Yep, Steve you are living my dream!

This is my LR customized the SK Blades 112. Thinned the frame and replaced the scales with micarta and flush pins. Added a pocket clip and thumb stud for one hand operation.

Ahhhaaa that looks good! I'm thinking of file work and maybe horn or something dramatic looking combination of horn and ivory. That is really thin and light and the clip fits well. I'm going to try it one day myself . So Leroy worked on that one? I just seen a pic of a liner lock 110 with the cutout for the thumb stud from the 1990's and wonder how that would work with a thick chunk of horn on a 112.
