New 1660CB Composite Blade Leek pictures (with 3D bonus!))

Interesting to hear they can do the weld with gold; that'd make for some interesting limited editions.
Yea we did do a few special pieces up with gold, and they did look really good.

To process with gold just really gets expensive (for both you and us). We'll have to see about a short run version, but nothing has been discussed as of today.

Good to see you back here STeven! Stick around!

Gee, thanks, Jeremy!

With the big guy(ThomasW) in full-active attendance mode, there has not been much for me to add or say.

He mostly has me muzzled....if I say anything bad about Kershaw(like, regarding frame lockup on framelocks:D), I get bombarded with hatemail...and he sends me gay porn via e-mail(where does he find that stuff, anyway;))

Just kidding...you guys are all doing a fine job...I lurk here...but unless something really needs to be said about bad lockup on framelocks, you, and other guys like KershawGuy and OffsetLover have it covered!

Best Regards,

Steven Garsson

This thread has had a fair number of views, so what does everyone think, would it be worth it to shoot and post some more stereo photos? Or are they just too hard to look at?

Do you have any more tips for viewing them. I cant figure them out to save my life lol. I used to be really good at those magic eye 3d things but I guess its not the same.

I can tell you what I was doing wrong...at least this is how the process works for me.

I had assumed that when the 2 images combined into one, that there would be just that one image visible. What actually happens (in my case, anyway) is that when I cross my eyes while focusing exactly between the 2, the composite stereo image forms between the 2 original images which sort of move to each side to make room for it...I kept trying to get those 2 peripheral images to disappear, thinking they weren't supposed to be there and that it wasn't working because they were.

Once I ignored them and concentrated on holding the center image in place while focusing on it and relaxing at the same time (as much as you can relax with your eyes crossed), it worked...the center image is 3-D!

I don't know if this will help, but that's the best I can explain it.

Post away!

Indeed.

I like 'em.

Antihero17, I just cross my eyes and defocus. They really are quite similar to the "Magic Eye" stuff. Sometimes using the black squares at the top and merging them into one in the center helps...

Unfortunately, I lack the ability to cross my eyes (about halfway there, my left eye snaps straight forward, and my right eye crosses. Too much practice with a scope maybe?)

But WOW, Thomas, you should send KneeDeep a copy of ALL your knives, and have him take the pictures for the site! These are amazing!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Bookworm.

Tweaked this one a bit to make it view a bit better.

Added a version set up for parallel viewing for anyone having trouble with cross viewing.
Let me know if this is any easier (I'm out of practice viewing parallel, so I'm not sure it works).

OK, did some research, with free-viewing parallel images, smaller is easier (or you can get further away from the screen). This gives cross viewing an advantage in that you can view larger images.

In any case, I've been posting these on a super high res 17 inch display so all the pics I post look tiny anyway, it's kind of hard to tell if the parallel images are too big or too small. Here are the parallel images in some smaller sizes. Let me know what works best.

Was wondering if this is a limited run or regular production?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

According to Thomas, the Composite Leek is the first production composite blade to ship, the Tyrade was a limited edition.

From Post #19: ...I think this knife would be great with a titanium handle, actually I wish all leeks had the titanium handle.

I agree, Antihero17, I'd love to see more titanium handles!!!!

wouldn't this 1660CB be just about perfect with Ti scales? YES!

come on Thomas W, give it some more thought....

Took me some time to view the 3D, but now I am able to see it, it's really cool.
Thanks for making and posting those pics. You're a real good photographer.

The normal pictures are nice too. I really like the look of the composite blades. That leek is one of the nicest I've seen so far.
Especially this one looks interesting:

Before, I thought the three metal layers were parallel(like in laminated), but on that picture it appears that the copper "crosses" the entire edge on that point.(Copper line continues on the edge)
That would mean there isn't any D2 behind that point(not that it would be necessary)

I've highlighted the part I'm talking about in the next pic:

So if I'm correct, in a composite blade the steel is layered horizontal(when looking at it edge down), with a "curved" form,
while in a laminated blade, the steel is layered vertically in straight sheets.

Looks like an even more innovative technology than I thought before.
