New 2026 models available on Buck's website

I asked AI to examine the new Mustang and the new Nomad and to speculate why Buck would launch two similar priced and similar designed knives. This is AI's (Gemini's) Analysis:

Buck's dual-knife strategy reflects a fundamental split in the knife market—heritage buyers who trust traditional designs versus modern EDC users who demand contemporary features.
Technically, Buck has launched two knives, but they're extremely similar in their materials, mechanisms and even formats, yet both serve distinct buyer personas at the same $74.99 price point.

  • Heritage segment (Mustang) — appeals to buyers who grew up with Buck lockbacks and prefer proven, simple designs; positioned as a modern update to Buck's traditional philosophy without abandoning the core lockback mechanism
  • Modern segment (Nomad/Ferrox) — targets knife enthusiasts and EDC communities that demand crossbar locks, D2 steel, and ambidextrous operation; represents Buck's answer to competitors like Benchmade and Spyderco
  • Price neutrality strategy — keeping both at $74.99 signals Buck is willing to accept lower margins on the crossbar models to gain market share in the modern EDC space while protecting the Mustang as an entry point for traditionalists
Buck has steadily modernized — adopting new steels, launching slimmer profiles, and adding assisted-opening models. The simultaneous release of the Mustang and Nomad/Ferrox suggests Buck is no longer choosing between heritage and innovation—it's committing to both. The Mustang lets traditionalists buy into Buck's legacy at an accessible price, while the crossbar models signal that Buck Knives, which was founded in 1902, is still evolving for 2026 and beyond.

This dual-model approach is unusual but not wasteful; it's Buck hedging against an uncertain market by offering something for every buyer at the same entry price.

Why did we give the 110 some magnacut and a clip, but no thumb stud? At more than double the price of a regular 110? Huh?

Probably new tooling and new assembly line as well for the slims, all of which needs to be paid for somehow. Also, the slims only come in Magnacut steel. The closest standard 110 is in S35vn at $150.
