So I finally broke down and ordered some P-50 and W2, so I needed to get a new quench tank. I almost broke down and just got an ammo can, but I wanted to be able quench up to 22". So I went ahead and just made a vertical one. It is 6"x25" and holds about 3 gal of oil. I still need to make a lid for it.
Everything else in my shop is a boring rust or steel color, so I thought I would give this a quick paint job. :D:cool:
Whatcha think?

I Think I want to make one too!!!
Mine is a tall Champaign bucket and only handles blade lengths about a 10" long.
Horizontal I can handle 20" in a sterno tub that is used to keep food warm in a buffet line.
But yours is perfect.

David, I have been using a large electric roasting pan (for turkeys I think) I can quench up to a 17" blade in it diagonally. Plus I can preheat the oil by turning the dial! From what I have read Parks has a working temp of 50-120F, so I shouldn't need to preheat it.
I think a vertical quench will be easier on longer blades, rather than trying to hold the blade for a horizontal quench.
If you make one I want to see the pics!
