New 302s, In hand critical review

What did the prototypes sell for?

I think I picked mine up for $20 each.

300,
Is there any real difference between what you are reviewing here and the prototypes offered as web specials a while back?

Thanks for taking the time to run all this down. Great information.

I just went and found my last invoice from Buck. I ordered 5 of them when they first hit the web specials page but I don't remember what the price was at that time (I'll keep looking). Then they dropped the price to $22 and I ordered 10 more. I don't remember anymore price drops after that.

$22 sounds about right now that I think about it.

Just checked. The dymondwood, chairman and yellow knife were 22 and the black sawcut was 20.

These were listed as 301s.

The first time they were listed they were alot more. I took in in the shorts when I bought them. I'm sure they would have fixed that for me when I ordered again as they've done that in the past after a price drop, but I didn't ask.

Here's the first invoice. The black sawcut was $36, the other three were $40 each.

They were $40 for most of thier time on Web Specials page and then magically dropped to $20. Nice little reward for procrasitnation:thumbup::D

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes they go up. The giraffe bone 532 for instance, I paid $80 each (IIRC) for two of them. They're now $120.

I'm going to have to pick one of these up it just seems like a simplistic an usefull pattern.

A little too simple IMO, I feel they would be much better with one additional blade, a sheepsfoot or wahrncliffe.

I actually only bought them because the ones on the web specials page were the prototypes and not a huge number were made. I won't be buying any of the new ones.

Yeah I saw that one myself, I picked mine up when they were $70, sure am glad I didnt wait. I see now that the Dorado's are out of stock. I may have blown it.

I couln't remember if they were $70 or $80. What I do now is take a screen shot everytime something is listed or changed on the specials page. That way I can go back and look and see and don't have to rely on my fading memory.

Which Dorado did you want? The folder with the coated CPM154 blade is still there. OOPs. I take that back, in the specs it now sau currently not available.:foot:

I'll have to have one or two, but will likely wait to see if they show up at the big box type stores. I do like the idea above about a sheepsfoot or wharncliffe blade, but I'd still want it in a single blade knife.

The yellow one was pleasant to me more than others.
On its appearance it is unusual knife in the sea of other knives.

I just mailed my black sawcut 302 back to Buck to take care of a high rivet:eek: I did think twice about spending $5.20 in postage on a $22.00 knife. Must say... I like these 302's;)

I can relate. I've got a Dymondwood Lancer w/ a high rivet that I need to send back. Worth it to me I guess to get it fixed right, as I would probably goof up w/ wood trying to fix it.

On handling the 302 black sawcut version, my fingertips quickly noticed a high rivet that would catch my finger surface.

Hi 300 Bucks,

Nice review.

I really like how candid and non-judgemental the folks here are about minor imperfections.

Anyway, I have exactly that same situation with a rivet on my new 301.

I'm trying to decide the easiest way to remedy it.

Are you just going to leave it as is?

pete

ETA: I didn't see the last couple of posts before posting this, looks like it's going back....
