New A.G. Russell Gentleman's Frame Lock -- impressive baby brother to the Acies2

The Acies2 displays "A.G. Russell" and "USA" prominently across the top of one side of the blade.

The Gentleman is more discreet, displaying "A.G. Russell" at the base of the blade on one side and "VG-10" and "China" at the base of the other side.

If you have both knives, you can easily see the high value in the Gentleman model.

Only have one and it was taken with my camera phone so the quality sucks

How is the flipping action? Good detent? Would love to see a quick vid.

After break-in, flipping is really smooth -- as smooth as my 3-inch Hinderer XM and has stayed that way. Both of these light-weight folders require some wrist action.

It opens and closes smoothly and easily and detent is rock solid.

(I'm not set up for vids, sorry.)

Bumping this back up as I'd love to see some pics too. Love the Acies2! Here are some steps to make it happen for those that weren't sure how.

To Post Pics:

Set up a free account at a photo hosting site...like Photobucket
Upload pictures from your mobile device or computer to photobucket
Open the picture in photobucket and 'copy' the IMG code.
Paste the IMG code into your post here on the forum and the picture will appear.

Just ordered one of these.

I haven't really been active in buying knives for awhile, but I'm going to sell a dodo and a a manix s90V and they should fund this (and an Al Mar Flcon Ultralight.) I've never bough an A.G. Russell knife, but I love the look of this one, and they have a great warranty, so I don't feel so bad about purchasing one without having held it (or at least seen a video!) To be fair, if I sent it back I might just use that money to splurge on an Acies 2, which also looks like a great knife.

Hey flash900, how long did it take to break in? I received mine yesterday, and while the knife is beautiful, it is by far the hardest knife to open I have ever owned. It's near impossible to open one-handed with the thumbstuds, and the flipper only opens the knife halfway (at the farthest, often more about 1/4 of the way). Either way I try and open the knife, it really requires to hands to get open. Should I loosen the pivot? Any other tips or suggestions?

Thanks

Sure, absolutely adjust the pivot!

Mine broke in quite easily with one to weeks of use, a slight pivot adjustment and a drop of Tuf Glide.

It does require some wrist flick, as does my 3-inch Hinderer. That's not unusual in my experience for a small, light-weight flipper like this.

One advantage of ordering from A.G. is that you can tell the staff exactly what you want. I always call and request that they select a knife that is well-centered, with no blade play in any direction, and that opens and closes smoothly.

If you don't like what they pick, send it back for exchange or refund.

I didn't like the feel of how the Gentleman opened and closed when I first got it. I thought I would have to return it. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly that changed after it broke in.

I love my Acies2 but my Gentleman is even more fun to use and play with.

Mine was hard to open initially as well. I just kept at it and now it's pretty easy. The lock was sticking so I used some pencil lead on the lock bar and blade that touches it. I now prefer to start it with the flipper, opening it up about a quarter of the way, then finish it with the thumb studs. The knife is just OK to me. It's not as smooth as my ZT0550 and it has a couple of sharp burs between the frame on the back that I feel if I hit the flipper pretty hard. The thumb studs most defiantly are what the blade stops on as mentioned above as well. I wonder if I got there knife they sent back in. It is not enough for me to send it back in for repair and I don't use it much due to my love of overbuilt folders with my work demands and the fact I rarely need a suit or nice outfit. I think the budget knife that A.G. is coming out with might have been a better option for me. Incidentally I also got an Orca from A.G.'s sight and without even using it and just opening it up a couple of times the blade is WAY off center to the point where it's touching the liner. I will try to correct this myself with a little loosing and tightening of the scales and pivot with a piece of paper placed in there to push it over. If that doesn't work I will send it in and I'm sure after everyone's raving reviews that A.G. will take care of it. My complaints aren't exactly fare due to the fact I haven't given A.G. a chance to fix them. It's kind of a pain in the rear to have to fill out forms or pay for shipping back, to get the results I expected to have out of the box. Nobody (and no knife) is perfect though.

I am probably going to buy the Gentleman's Framelock flipper in the near future. When I do, I'll try to do a little showing of it.

In the store when I am showing framelocks, the most common problem is that people put their forefinger on the locking lever, forcing the ball into the detent, making the blade almost impossible to open.

I tell them that the forefinger must be out in the air while the other three fingers hold the knife.

When we finished checking these knives we found almost no 2nds, allowing us to adjust the price. Following our regular policy. The buyers will hear from us next week.

I have beeen meaning to post here but was getting a malware notice by my Mcafee antivirus security. Anyway, I posted here earlier with my problems I had with my A. G. Russell Gentleman's Frame Lock...... could not open by thumb studs and thumb studs resting on frame. I sent it back to A G as he said on this topic. In less than a week he has sent me a new one that is flawless. Excellent service/warranty from a fine gentleman and great company. Thanks Mr. Russell.

What do you say to someone who sends you a refund you didn't ask for and never expected?

A.G. has reduced the price of the Gentleman's Frame Lock to $125 from the original catalog price of $165.

Those who paid $165 are getting a merchandise coupon good for $40 on their next purchase. (I purchased at the club member introductory price of $149.95 so I got a $25 coupon in the mail.)

I also got a letter with this explanation:

"We recently realized that we have an opportunity to reduce the price on this knife. The small losses in quality control has made this possible."

The new, lower price is reflected on the website and on future catalogs. The model number for the Gentleman -- it comes with a titanium frame lock and VG-10 drop point blade -- is AGFR-C2T.

I have my acies 2 in my pocket today.
I love it..but removed the clip. I use a leather pouch instead

I just bought the Gentleman's frame lock and I have the same problem. I cannot open at all with the thumb studs and only part way with the flipper. I have to flip it part way open with the flipper then use the stud to open the rest of the way. Otherwise, I absolutely love this knife.
