So Mr. Russell has introduced a new line of slipjoints and they are brawny, muscular, and dang impressive to say the least. Of the large lockback, gunstock and sowbelly I just had to treat myself to the latter.
I am so blown away by this knife. Fit and finish? Outstanding. Nice brushed satin finish and the brown Rucarta slabs are seamless to the bolsters. Blades are dead centered and the pull is a nice 5. Sharpness? Very. I may not even strop it. This knife is not for everyone as it is too Herculean for EDC. It's 4 1/4" closed. Main blade is 3 3/8" long and 1" wide. The wharnecliffe is a whopping 3 1/2" long and 7/8" wide. It weighs nearly 6 oz. It's a fistfull, made for camp chores, farm work and anything but spending its days in a safe. What I really liked was how super clean the inside channels were. I've never had a production knife this well done on the interior. The included woven leather lanyard is a nice touch too.
Oh yeah. And the cost? 64 bucks.
Enjoy. :)

I placed this alongside a GEC Harness Jack, a big knife in its own rights on a burly 4" frame.

That is amazing! And with SS bolsters and liners, too! Wow! It is a steal! Now if it were only smaller ...

Thats a stout folder.Love the wharnie 2nd.Is it the China production with the good alphabet steel (i can never remember the number.)I just sold a locking hawk with that same look and combo of materials.Very high quality.

Corey,

Does it have half stops?

Are the backsprings tight? Looks like it could be a nail breaker.

Sorry just noticed you said the pull was about a 5.:o

No half-stops, just the way A.G. prefers his knives. The pull is just right, I so hate nail breakers.
And the steel is 8Cr13MoV. I'm not a stainless expert but I'm assuming it is of decent quality.

Thanks for the post and impressions. How does it feel in the hand? I was hoping it would be a single blade, as they tend to handle better. With either blade open how does it handle? Thanks,

I think that looks awesome, but to me it looks more like a dogleg. In a good way.

Well I'd be lying if I said the closed blade didn't feel somewhat in the way while gripped when the other one is extended. But it's not uncomfortable. The mongo wharnie is interesting when fully opened. The blade is canted forward as to provide for some real aggressive cutting action.

8Cr13MoV is quite similar to sandvik 13c26 steel, which is in itsself a pretty decent steel.
If it's anything similar to 13c26 at all, you should expect edges that sharpen up very well, and take a polish quickly. Apparently, people have said about 13c26 that it behaves like ordinary carbon steel, except it doesn't patina.
And since the only overt difference between 8Cr13MoV and 13c26 is that the former contains more carbon, molybdenum, nickel, silicon and vanadium, i'd say it's pretty close too. Probably a bit tougher, and might work better with a slightly rougher grit edge-finishing.

With this, i tried to say: Yes, 8Cr13MoV is indeed a decent steel quality.
I'm sorry for my ramblings.

Corey, my man, you might have just found me my next knife. Thanks for the post!

Cool. Kinda like a sowleg or a dogbelly. Lotsa knife there but not too big.
