Hello everyone. I know some of you have had problems getting in touch with the ABS to get questions answered or information. As part of the improvement process for the website and other areas, the ABS now has a new phone number which is 24/7, 365 days a year, and will be answered by a live person. Hopefully the new website will be up and running in a few weeks.
The number is: 419 - 832 - 0400
Thank you everyone for your patience.

Holy smokes  a live person 24/7?! Why? That seems excessive and unwarranted. I hope that's inaccurate. I haven't got enough energy to pity the folks "manning" the phones round the clock, thus I'd start feeling guilty instead...:o...and I don't have the energy to sustain that either. :o Thanks for the update. It's always nice to hear good news from the ABS!!! :)

As incredible as this level of service sounds, I can say that it will be very possible due to the dedication of the people who have been working very hard for a couple of years and will now continue to devote themselves to a new era for the ABS. When asked to help test out the system, I got immediate response to a separate electronic registration system via networking that got the job done while the administrator was still on the road to one of my dagger classes last week.

Also, those of us at that class got a private sneak preview of the new ABS website to be online within weeks and I am here to tell you that it will be beyond anything you have ever seen before! I have confidence this new all inclusive tool will not only profoundly change the ABS, but knifemaking around the world. The 24 hour phone line will be nice, but the website may meet so many needs well enough to greatly eliminate many of the past needs for phone calls. Keep your eyes and ears open because when this thing goes online in the next few weeks, it will be BIG!

I was one of those at the class Kevin refers to.
Phil, it's answered 24 hours a day because the ABS is an international organization, with Master Smiths on every continent except Antarctica, and the news of the new web site has already reached globally.
I, too, was able to enjoy the new site and take advantage of some of the tools. (This was a perk of being at the small class and already being an ABS member.)
When launched, it will be a boon to the knife industry and those who choose to take part.
The amount of work put into this by some extraordinary people was more than I could wrap my little mind around.
Can't wait!

I can see it now....there will be drunk-dialing to the ABS hotline during Blade.....

:D

The new site will be very cool and something the ABS as needed for a very long time.

Feel kind of bad for the one who answers the phone at all hours of the night

I would bet that they farmed out the actual answering of the phones to a service. I used to work 3rd shift at a answering service, it was actually kinda fun cuz we answered for the secret service counterfeit division in Atl and I got some of the craziest kooks calling at 2am.

it's pretty simple though, they just write a script for the person who answers the phone, they take all of the info and type it into a database. every morning at 9:am the server sends a fax to the designated contact with all of the evenings messages.

It only goes to an answering service during the night and off-hours.
Calls are immediately forwarded by means of text message and email to a minimum of two ABS persons designated to take care of "business".
During the regular work day, it goes to a live ABS person's house.
I heard it ring.
