I did these up over the last month. This is ACU digital pattern with 4 layers of desert utility in the middle. Sandwiched between those desert tan layers is 1 layer of Kiowa pilot & 1 layer of F-18 pilot. The kiowa pilot was Psyop's brother/ Col defender's son, you can read more about him here,

The second tribute layer was my dads very good friend Lt. Col John Fredrick Dalton a Marine pilot who was killed off the coast of Dana point Ca. in November of 1983 while doing touch and goes off a carrier at night in his F-18. His wife gave me his woodland marine utility blouse many years ago when I was about 12 and I wore it till it had too many holes to be servicable. I couldn't bring myself to throw it out so it sat in my garage, then imagine this, I start making custom knife scales and I have a need for fabric..

I'm not super happy with how they came out overall. I went for the old Camillus micarta look on these so they are slabby. The ACU fabric is hard to get looking good. They are about 22/64ths thick so it's too late to make them Ka Bar style (26/64ths). They are what they are.

I like em!! It looks like ESEE scales hooked up with a Becker blade!! (I mean that in a good way, I like ESEE). What an awesome way to pay tribute to your dad's friend!

Those are awesome, and I'm glad that an old uniform got put to good use beyond it's good years.

Fal'er, how comfortable are those scales on a scales of 1-10 (10 being super comfortable)? They looks pretty square. Appart from that I gotta say nice work, removable scales are something I cant do.

A salute, Sir, to them.....and you.

If you ever want the edges rounded, send me the scales and I'll round them off on my router table. No charge.

I think those are excellent scales FAL'er, as well as a worthy tribute!

WOW, what an honor it would be to have those scales. I applaud you, those ate bad a$$!

Thanks for all the kind words, Yeah, sending them off to get them rounded is a good idea and I'd love to keep that option open for a couple weeks if that's ok with you?

Awesome work yet again my friend. You're really good at those scales. Plus, the story behind it is a nice sentiment.
