I just found these "World Famous" towels at Canadian Tire ($2.50 for 3 towels) and think that they would make a good addition to a survival kit. I know that they are just J-cloth towels but as small as they package them I could not turn down getting a pack.
Please note that the opened towel is folded in half so it is actually a quite large package.
Now what uses could this be put into service for:
Wash towel
Fire starter (the towel itself, plastic wrap and paper caps on both ends)
Emergency bandage
Headband (if your head is smaller than mine- but I'm in the 130th percentile so most are)
Dew collection for drinking water/ washing in the morning (refreshing!)
As it is porous one thing that came to mind right away is a net for aquatic invertabrates (freshwater shrimp, cladocera, beetles...) or small fish with a simple bent twig net frame.
Cut into strips and used as rope (or twisted into stronger cordage)
Ground sheet for a pitfal trap (color is off but it could provide a base to put dead leaves etc. on.
The only real negative I can see is the price as one can buy a roll of cloths for much less than I paid for 3 BUT- there is no way that I can get it reduced in size like they can package these.
Anybody tried them/ have any more uses/ opinions?
Thanks
