New American Lawman in XHP available...

...it was cutting up a small box, the only freakin POSSIBLE user error would be doing something to cut myself, or trying to use the wrong side of the blade. I was using the edge and didn't cut myself, so no, not user error.

I use my Lawman at work and have broken down many boxes when needed.....never had an issue with the steel. It is not the soup of the day, but works great for basic tasks. But it going dull after a small box seems pretty funny.

Seems less funny when you have a second box that needs breaking down unfortunately. Grabbed my custom shop S30V Buck 110 and took that box down with no issues.

Really....? AUS-8A is incapable of taking down two boxes?

You should stop reading the internet.......It is making you look silly.

Yes, champ, really. After breaking down ONE box the Voyager was goddamn DULL.

You can argue it all you want, but the fact is it happened, and that's not the only bad experience I've had with AUS-8's edge holding, it's just the worst example.

It might be a heat treatment problem. AUS8 is very heat treatment dependent. I'd take it to the nearest Cold Steel dealer and talk to them about it.

That's after doing a resharpen in case it was just a bad edge, which can happen too.

So are you saying a properly sharpened Voyager in AUS-8A is incapable of breaking down more than one cardboard box?

Well, mine was incapable of it. It was slicing right through it at the start but after a couple of passes it was getting harder and harder, and by the time the box was completely broke down the knife was dull. Other AUS-8 knives haven't performed great either, though that was the worst of the bunch.

My code4 was dull and couldn't slice paper after just one box, with the factory edge, then I reprofiled it to lower angle, and still had stubborn burr on it.I got rid of the burr and lowered the angle and that aus8a performs really well now.The edge geometry on my code4 clip point is excellent, it cuts better than most Spydercos and other knives I have.Just wish the steel was d2 or xhp.

Edge can be burned on grinders in factory, and it takes few sharpenings to get to the good steel that holds edge.

I thought I might be able to get some insight on what the excitement is about this XHP steel. Not ONE person has mentioned the characteristics of XHP vs AUS 8, or has compared it to another "premium" steel. Makes me wonder if anyone talking this steel up really knows much about XHP.:o
I couldn't find any info on a quick search. I assumed it was another carpenter steel. I hope it is not similar to D2.
Personally, I like the AUS 8 because it keeps the price down, so I get to own/experience more CS knives.
I don't use my knives for heavy cutting anyhow. I prefer CS machetes, CS hawks and Lowe's pruners/saws.

My brother complained about how quickly the Med Voyager I gave him dulled. I offered to take it back if he didn't like it.
Of course, he got real quiet, and I haven't heard any complaints since.
Knowing how to resharpen, and put a decent edge on the blade makes a big difference.
CS Aus 8 is a cheap, soft steel. It is a great choice to learn how to sharpen knives. I learned on Sogzilla Aus8.;)
