New American Made 300 Series Knives.

Quick and dirty way to tell.

If the model number starts with "30" it's American made. (older out of production USA knives may have "31" or "32")

If it starts with "37" or "38" it's imported.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm having fun learning all the little Buck idiosyncrasies. Can't wait to get my hands on some more Bucks! :D

BCCL, There are some quirks out there to the 30x vs 37x and US and China.

I have a wood handled 301 inverted T that is China. main blade says BUCK 301 invert T and the sheepfoot blade says China.

Dont know why this one is different. May be a few other quirks out there.

I've seen some 303's on Ebay like that, always 2004 (inverted T), and since the Chinese imports came out in 2005, I suspect these are early models or prototypes for the import line.

Cool info on the timeline!

Thinking back on this one (and thats hard for me ) This one may have come back from Buck as a replacement on one I had sent in for repair quite some time ago.

I noticed that the new version of the 301 (Dymondwood & sheath) is like the older 301 - and my nineteen year old 301. They all have their secondary knife blades reversed from those of my Puma and Boker Tree Brand Stockman knives. I whittled a bunch of twigs & limbs with that 301... made many a pointed sticks - and kindling.

Buck reversed the traditional layout of the sheepsfoot and spey blades in 1991 when they went to 3 backsprings, with each blade having it's own spring.

The new Dymondwood ones have the same layout.

I must be 'quirkee' as all three of my China Bucks are marked as described. 300Bucks (four CBs)

That's the other thing about all the 303's I've seen that are marked "China", they never have a shield.

I ordered a 301 last night...plastic scales, "classic bolt" logo. I'm definitely going to order a Dymondwood-scaled model when I have some more scratch, too.

Jeff,

I don't guess I understand, the middle and back one both have shields just that first edition doesn't ? 300

Ok, maybe I do now, you mean 'just the first China edition" with 303 on tang and mirror polished blades.....
