OPEN QUESTION: I just got an e-mail from AnCCreations advertising a new "KNIFENUT COMMUNITY" forum.
I have read through the thread on these folks:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161795
and was therefore put on my guard.
I have not done business with this guy, but after seeing the posts I have to wonder, is this new forum a scam?
Also, please be advised that this "KNIFENUT COMMUNITY" forum does NOT have any connection to forum http://knifenut.idv.tw operated by my friend Joe Chen, who is an honorable person and a good customer. His forum is in Chinese and probably wouldn't be confused after you linked in to it, but the similarity in names might give him some grief.

Hi twohawks,
Thanks for the heads up, I don't know the new forums until you told me.
I don't see there has any problem for the similar name here.
Allen Blade is a famous maker and I remembered he had his own forums before.
My "Knifenut Forums" is a very small one and only focus on knife discussion in Chinese (Mandarin). The domain name will tell the difference very clear.

Besides we don't have the trademark about the "knifenut" word and I think this is one good word for all of knife lover. ;)

We already have www.bladeforums.com , www.knifeforums.com , www.tacticalforums.com

More forums more merrier.

I wish the new forums a success and I have one thought out of my mind immediately, we can reach the maker without any problem via his forums now.

My .02 cents

Again, thanks for your post, you are a truly great man to deal with.

Where exactly is this new forum located?

I'd like to see it.

If you can, please post the website address.

Thanks.

I got the same email two days ago. Odd thing is that the host seems to be a huge compilations of BB's. You can either make a user account for just one of them or a global account to use on all.

Recognized some names from here at bladeforums. My question is, does anyone see this as an odd coincidence? Is someone going around on bladeforums and steeling all veiwable email addresses to make a mailing list of potential new members for that forum?

If it had just been me I would have blown it off, but I'm honestly wondering if someone out there is using bladeforums as a place to get email addresses, and thats something I would have a big problem with personally.

Click here to go to the knifenut community.

It is totally legit. I have had several dealings with Allen Blade and all have turned out fine. I believe it has the potential to be a successful forum. I hope that several of us become involved in the knifenut community as well as here. A better variety of forums only helps us.

I think it is great to have as many forums as possible to learn more about knives from. It is good to be able to converse with Allen on another forum since he is no longer allowed on this one.

I got the email as well and was completely turned off by the join here for a bizzillion BBs and mailing lists and get rich quick MLM, etc., etc., yadda-yadda.

I remember when I could crack open a cold one and sit here and learn about knives with similarly situated people, most who knew more than I did. What happened to those old days?

I am willing to give the Knifenut community a chance. I really believe there are good intentions in starting the forum.

Thanks for the info, guys. The great thing about this forum is that you can always learn something from the contributors.
It DOES sound like someone may have "harvested" names and e-mail addresses off the forum. However, I just got an e-mail from an individual who claims to be a bank officer in Togo (Africa) with the classic "unclaimed estate" scam ... he probably got the name and e-mail address off the Business Directory search engine. So you never know. That one got reported to the FBI.
As to the miscellaneous crud on the forum provider, it sounds like AnC found a service that would provide a forum site cheap because they make their money off huge volumes of paid advertising. I think I'll pass ... I already get enough spam and other unsolicited junk on my e-mail.
