It is getting really close to time for the OKCA show in Eugene Oregon.
This is my favorite show of the year so I have been collecting a lot of different types of wood for the show. I am supposed to be getting ready for the show as well as stock pieces into our webstore as I get them ready.

But.......I have a lot of fun here on the forum.
Whenever I can take a break I get on the computer to see what is happening here.

I hope it's ok with you guys if I post some photos as I get different batches of wood ready. I don't know about you, but I like to look at the photos. With each batch I post here I will follow up by posting the individual pieces in the webstore. That way if anyone who isn't going to the OKCA show wants something, they can still get it.

The webstore automates everything so I just check once in a while and it tells me what has been paid for and where to ship it to.

Feel free to post any comments you like about the wood I show here.
If you think it's ugly or weird, just say so. There are some weird knife makers who like to make weird knives using weird wood for their weird handles.

I hope you like this stuff as much as I do.

The batch I am posting in the webstore right now is some Sheoak sent to me from Australia. Yes, it really is that bright red/orange color in real life. They will be in the Natural Blocks section of the Webstore under Australian Woods.

The 5th one from the left in the top row and the block under it look like they are ON FIRE! Pretty cool looking if you ask me

Just want to make sure I understand correctly. Are the black palm blocks getting posted on the website.I am interested in some.

The Black palm will be posted in the Stabilized Blocks section of the webstore under it's own section. There are about 20 blocks there now and I will be adding the rest today.

Dan and Silversage,
The Sheoak was something I got as a gift the first time I saw it. I really liked the bright colors and the unusual grain. I am starting to make some friends down under and they like to surprise me with what they send. I bought this batch sight unseen and couldn't be happier.

Next I will be adding some walnut.
I know the photos don't look like much but...... they look real good in person.
These were all cut from the same burl stump.
These should be in the webstore some time Monday.

Some with Burly figure.

After I finish up loading the black palm I will add some more Redwood I had stashed.

I am getting some of the redwood posted now.
They will be in the section Stabilized Blocks, under redwood on the second page.
Look for the ones that say Estate Redwood Lace Burl.

.
Mark, I looked for the long one on the right and didn't see it - did it already sell?

EDIT - hmm. Might be an optical illusion with the pic. maybe that's two pieces.

Love that Sheoak Mark.
I just ordered a block of it. Put in a note that I'll need some thin scales cut but don't know for sure exact thicknesses yet; I know I want some 1/4" and will send a note or call tomorrow with the other thickness.
Thanks,
Russ

Next up is some more Koa.
I got these pieces from an old timer who supplies koa to very highend guitar builders. He called this stuff "Ribbon Curl". He said with the guitar guys this is considered the Best of the Best. I am not sure yet how it will go over with the knife makers though. I guess time will tell.

For those not familiar with Lace Sheoak, it is an Australian wood. It is reasonably scarce, and only one in a hundred sheoak trees display the lace pattern. It is hard and takes a fantastic shine. I got four huge slabs about ten years ago from an importer, and love it. The 3-D pattern does not show in photographs, so it looks better in the hand than on the screen. It also looks much different when made into a curved handle then as a flat block.

I sell a few blocks at the shows, but most stays in my private stash.

Interested in your stabalized black palm and your koa wood. New to this forum, and unsure of how to send a personal msg, but my email is payne (dot) stephan (at) gmail (dot) com. Thank you.

This is what normal sheoak comes up like. This is not stabilised and with 2 coats of danish oil. It buffs up well if you want it to.
