Those of you who have followed Benchmade for a long time know that at one point in time, they had a collaboration with Steve Schwarzer- the Kuma Zume push dagger. Well, I had the good fortune of catching up with Steve at the Benchmade booth and he informed me that they are resurrecting the Kuma Zume, with a complete redesign of the knife. Not much details available yet. As I get them they will be posted.

I remember an article in an old knife magazine about it, with a picture of a claw-shaped blade. Very good-looking piece. I'd be delighted to see it produced.

You are correct, sir. The old style had that claw blade with a Kraton rubber handle. The new one will be totally redesigned to modern standards. Hmm...I'm wishing S30V :)

Very nice...Now if they would only resurrect the old Benchmade Panther. I used to have one which was one of my favourite budget linerlock folders, but I lost it. I wanted to replace it with a new one, but by then Benchmade had discontinued them. I really like that knife and I still prefer it over the Ascent.

The Kuma Zume was pretty neat, I actually had one. It had a really thick blade that was in A2 steel. The kraton rubber handle was sort of concaved and afforded a really secure grip. It even had a kydex-like sheath that fit really well on most belts. Overall it was cool, should have kept it I guess?

It's good to hear that they are revamping the design and producing it once more, it was a design that was never in the lime light, but deserved attention.

I am curious to see what the new version will look like. I was fortunate to pick up an old one a couple of years back and it's been a great little blade.

This one is made of chromed A2.

They can change the materials and construction all they want... I jus thope they done change the over-all lines of it too much... the original seems to be a wicked piece of defensive steel, very effective... sort of an Urban Skinner/La Griffe bastard love child ;)... hehe

Just had a look at the picture above after reading that.

Damn it is true!!!

Please say it's not chisel ground, please say it's not chisel ground..

I've been wanting one for about 5 years, since I first saw it mentioned in TK. Just as long as it isnt chisel ground, I plan on picking one up.

TMT = tight mouthed travis --- we hung out for 3 days and not a word. It will never be the same !!!

Anyone heard anything new about this? ETA, still in planning, etc?

Kuma? ok,, Rerelease of the Panther? Oh Hell Yes- I'd love to see that. Very underrated knife at a great price point.

Ooooh now that does turn the old crank I must say.
I think I would definately see my way to picking one of those up.
