Meet the Dodo, a quirky looking compact folder featuring SPyderco's Ball Bearing Lock, a recurved 2 1/6" blade, 1/8" stock, and blue G-10 scales.

Wire clip is reversible for left or right hand carry.

The C80 Dodo was designed by Eric Glesser, Sal's son.

How sturdy is that wire clip? I'd be worried it would bend easily if it happened to get caught on anything. Also, are there any exploded drawings of the Ball Bearing lock? I'm curious as to how this design works compared to the axis lock or arc lock, besides the obvious differences.

Not sure whether I like that one or not, I guess I would probably have to handle it to be able to tell.

The wire clips are amazingly sturdy. I have a Salsa with the wire clip and it's rock solid...

That was my main concern. I handled a Sog Vision a couple months ago, and it seemed the skeletal clip was rather week, and easily bent. That's why I was skeptical of the wire clips.

Same here.

But it's definitely a refreshingly original design.

That's a cool design! Secure in the hand as an EDC utility user & it looks like it would be hell on wheels in reverse grip (think Kerambit w/out the hole). Is this MBC rated?

Rugger - I don't think it is. I talked with Eric [Sal's son] at the show and he said that this knife was primarily designed as a compact folding knife with lots of punch [hence, the recurved edge] and with a secure handle.

As to the wire clip, it feels very secure. I doubt anyone will have any problems with it.

Wow, I like that, would love to hold one! Guess we will have to wait. paul

I'm mostly a balisong guy myself, but I have to admit...I do like that.

It looks like a prehistoric dinosaur in a way :)

I thought for sure that I read a while back that a Spyderco rep was touting this knife as an MBC blade which could be carried into more restrictive jurisdictions, hence the full handle with the short blade, but I guess they could have changed. Or maybe I'm wrong- but I REALLY think this blade was supposed to be MBC. I'd like to hear Sal on this one, but i dunno. I'll still buy one even if its not MBC (after all Boston has absolutely DRACONIAN knife laws)!

Thats really nice.
Like a folding SPOT without the ring. Beats the hell out of the Cricket I have on my key-ring.
The cricket is a WICKEd little blade, for such a small blade the amount of damage it can do to tissue is amazing, you could take someone apart with that thing. But the handle isnt secure for defense stuff. The Dodo looks like it will be very secure however.
Looks like it would also be fair game for a "wave treatment" too.
I see one in my future, yes sir E-bob

Hmmmm.., cute little guy :)....thanks!

Thanks Dexter!
It would be cool if it were a MBC blade- I don't know much about the ball bearing-type lock. How strong is it & how does it hold up against accidental unlocking? Any idea as to the MSRP or release date?
Many thanx one & all-
Mike

I would need to look very closely at that one. i am not terribly enchanted with recurved blades and I am even less enchanted with tip-up carry. I do like the shape of the hilt, however, and the blade tip certainly looks a good bit stronger than most of Spyderco's hawksbill designs.

Anybody going to Blade want to pick one of these up for me?
I'll make it worth your while. ;)
