New aus10 tested on youtube

Pleasantly surprised. I think it was on par with s30v in edge holding, its a step up from BD1 and a leap from AUS8. Now I am wanting Cold Steel to do some of their fixed blades in AUS10 like the kobun and marauder bowie.

I couldn't believe it beat out ZT's S35VN (AUS10-150 vs S35VN-109) It also beat out Cold Steel's previous choice CTS-BD1, though I can't remember the number. I know a lot of people were on the fence about the switch but this seems like it worked out okay.

At one point, didn't they make the Trail Master in AUS10? I'd buy one of those for sure!

Not that I know of...the regular stainless version (non-San Mai) was first listed as 400 Series Stainless, and then AUS6, although some catalogs said AUS8, but I think that was a typo.

Doesn't surprise me. I had a ZT in S35VN. It was clearly run very soft. Edge would roll easily and I could also tell when sharpening.

Something that has consistently impressed me about Cold Steel is the quality of the heat treat on their blades, regardless of steel type. I really don't get too concerned when I hear they are changing steels because I know they will do the heat treat right. I was impressed with what they did with AUS 8 and flat out bowled over with their XHP.

I wonder how they compare in terms of corrosion resistance. Where I live, spoons will rust away between bowl and mouth. Joking, but it is a big consideration for me.

Still Cold Steel uses a lot of cheaper steels like 4116 and now 8Cr13Mov. I don't think comparing to Spyderco makes a lot of sense. Spyderco has been a pioneer in offering less common steels to the market like Maxamet, Cruwear, 4V, H1, LC200N, etc. Spyderco also typically hardens their steel toward the top of range.
But yes, Cold Steel offers a better value.

If this test is reliable, which I think it is, it makes cs blades like the voyager head and shoulders above every other folder out there in that under 60 dollar category. Best lock, strongest construction, and now even better steel (edge retention anyway) than even the carpenter BD1. Anyway it’s a great excuse to buy another one

Theres a lot of hype around spyderco and too many fanboys. They make good knives but in my opinion are overpriced for what you get and a lot of different steels ,lot of them perform same but its good marketing strategy i guess.

There's a lot of hype around Spyderco? Cold Steel's "Proof" videos are the definition of hype(rbole). Spyderco's claimed performance does not seem exaggerated to me. They work well. Their pricing has gotten high over the past few years while Cold Steel continues to deliver awesome value.

I have a couple of Spyderco's and they are good knives, but they don't make bigger ones like CS does. Seems like 4" is big for them. Spyderco seems to stay in their niche(nothing wrong with that) while CS just blasts different configurations that Mr. Thompson finds interesting. I would run my "knife" company that way too, I will bet Mr. Thompson has a great deal of fun doing it.

I buy what I like across brands. Most of what I have is Cold Steel and Spyderco.
Most of what I have is also Spyderco and Cold Steel, my two current favorites.
I ve always been attracted to quality folders that are good value for their price. For years the best value for the money came from Spyderco. After their first price increase (map), and CS s switch from aus8 to xhp steel, CS became the value leader. Now with Spyderco s second price increase (map raised to 65% msrp), and CS s switch to s35vn and aus10, but holding the prices fairly steady (and letting the different retailers adjust the sales prices as they see fit), top spot for high value is a bit cloudy but still belongs ,in my opinion to Cold Steel. Too bad, because I was a true Spyderco fan. Now I rarely look at their new models, all seem too expensive. Meanwhile, CS keeps coming out with knives that are ergonomic, strong, well made, and good steel with very good edge retention, for a good price.
Just my current impression. FWIW.

Compare for example code1 in aus8 or ctsxhp and endura in vg10.Price almost same and in some cases endura costs more but code 1is way better knife overall,cs aus8 is same if not even better than spydercos vg10.I wontbeven talk about ctsxhp.
