Thoughts?

I can promise it won't for me...

because i wont have one. too ugly, and probably heavier than my 'hawk

It will sell like hotcakes to a generation of kids grown up with transformers. Look at it in its folded state. It is clearly a stapler :D :D

I think it's a phenomenol idea that is doomed to failure. This would be great to throw in the car "just in case" but I just don't see how it could be durable enough for heavy use. I guess I'll stick with my Saber Cut Survival Saw. Takes up little room, is relatively lightweight and works well.

Holy god that's ugly. It's hard to add up all the stress points at which I'd expect a breakage. But hey, 'different strokes...' and all.

[whisper]"I see sharp edges..."[/whisper]

I'd let someone else carry it and maybebaton with it.

I like the concept. Gerber makes some decent gear, so maybe it is not too bad. If the price weren't so steep, I'd grab one and test it out. I was thinking about becoming a Gerber dealer at some point, so maybe I'll take the plunge and put one of these on the order so someone can test it out.

Also, Transformers rule, so +1 on the tool in that regard. :)

I seem to recall that when we first saw the prototype of this, those of us who thought it looked silly were told to wait and see, and to test it out before we rushed to judgement.

To heck with that. I still think it looks silly. I can't recall ever looking at my axe and thinking "you know what this needs? More moving parts!".

But, to each their own. I still look forward to hearing from someone who has used one of these.

All the best.

might make it into some bad action movies, but not my pack.

Looks like a high-tech paintball gun if you look at it again...

i don't even love fishing poles that break down!!!! haha...holy hell

I'd break that in three seconds. According to my old boss, I "could f___ up an anvil with a rubber mallet." It would NOT last. Might work well for others, but not for me.

I like gadgets, and I love axes, but...I don't think that I can get behind something that looks like it is doomed to break so easily.

The prototype of that thing has been out a while. I'm surprised they finally released it.

The trouble with high-end paintball guns:

They shoot like a dream, but they're ALWAYS breaking down.

DNW things that fold in the direction I'm swinging a sharp object at with force!

Lot of speculation - We should hit it on a hard piece of wood and find out the facts. Someone has to take one for the team here....

points to ponder:
1- Even the Gerber website doesn't list a handle length.
2- for 90$ plus tax/shipping i can't "take one for the team"
3- At best i see ppl saying "better than expected" still won't be "better than a hatchet fixed blade hatchet" (coined a new term? FBH?)
4- Do hatchets take up more room than this hatchet like object? i don't see a reason to make it fold...i don't get it.

on somthing like a hatchet, durability is synonimous with safety. If an axe breaks in use, there is going to be problems. Probably peice-of-sharp-steel-imbeded-in-my-leg type of problems.
