Don't worry, they're gonna take great care of your little one. My oldest spent 12 days in the NICU followed by open heart bypass a few weeks later. The skill and competence of the nursing staff as well as the caring they show for those little ones will make you cry.
Not my intention to cause fear, just exercise caution (Ive worked in a few hospitals and have witnessed many things). As for your little one Im guessing, and its non of my business though, atrial or ventricular septal defect ( 1/250 births) , patent ductus arteriosus (1/2000) or coarctation of aorta (7-8 / 100 births). New borns with congenital heart defects can develop dilated cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart) , normal heart rate 130/min and kids with heart defects can have rates upwards of 170s. A heart rate that high is like exercising when it should be at rest. The heart is a muscle, when its worked, and over worked for a long period it grows= enlarged heart. Its awful when kids are sick, they dont understand and are very afraid. Its nice when people donate time and toys for some of these kids. Nurses in general ae great, they are overworked, underpaid & under-appreciated. That is why a nursing shortage exists. Anyway good luck everyone, God bless and best of health.
