Well, after saving up and selling some paintball gear (I still have too much) I bought a new tent, sleeping pad, stove, sleeping bag, and pack. The pack has not yet come in - and I don't have pics of the sleeping pad and bag (I figure I will get these when I get out with them) - but I wanted to post up pics of the tent, and stove.

The tent is an REI T3 - it is a three person tent - I plan on using it alone - but being so danged tall - I needed something to fit me and my gear:

Here it is without it's rain fly or footprint in the back room (note the painting by my kids in the background) .

Here it is set up in the front yard with the rain fly and guy lines and the footprint:

Here is my camping stove - It is a Jet Boil Group kit - and I purchased a single cup to go along with it.

I tested it out (there is oatmeal in my cup) and it boiled a little over a 1/2 cup of water in under a minute! Holy crow!

Everything fits in either the pot or the cup depending on what you want to carry.

When I get my pack I will give a review of it to put here. I am not that much of a gear head but I know if I make myself a little more comfortable when I hike and camp I will be much more likely to go out camping and get out in the wilderness. My plan is to get out and then test out portions of my PSK and get it down to what I want to have in it.

This is my first kit since the birth of my kids - but my wife is being really supportive of me getting out and hiking.

Nice gear! I like those jetboils, I am gonna get one eventually, but fires are ok here, so I havent had the need......

Sweet tent too!!

Good stuff man- I love the painting by the way, maybe you could hang it in the tent when you're camping!

Fires are okay here too - but one minute to make food - is way easier than procuring the firewood on the trail - when I am more camping than backpacking - the stove stays home! ;)

MIke - when the picture is righted - it is an awesome picture of a tree! ;)

I ordered a Jansport Whittaker LT pack. It was on closeout at REI and was Backpacker's editors choice in 2006.

200 dollars off! I will show you it when it comes in.

Those jetboils have just come out here, i am intrigued, how do you find it, does the gas last long, and does the finish stay on the cup, too hot to hold or ok, etc.

I have only used it once - but with the neoprene cover on the cup it was not to hot to hold with water boiling.

The bottom ofcourse was too hot to hold. The finish seems very tough - when putting in and taking out the stove - it scrapes on stainless steel - and it seems to not even put a mark on the finish.

I will let you know in a long run.

Nice gear - I've yet to get a Jetboil, it's on my Xmas list though.

It's a great little set up!

Nice stuff Talfruche! I really like the Jetboil, but I'm stuck on liquid.... maybe I'm stuck in the past, I don;t know. The best thing about the Jetboil is it storing itself in the cup. I think that's right anyway...isn;t it?

What's the footprint (area) of your tent? Looks like a good one (I'm a clip fan).

The Jetboils are great. I have had one for over a year, used it many times and it looks like new. The fuel lasts quite a while-especially if you remember to turn it OFF before diving into your food! A snap to clean and stuff nests inside. I am eyeing one of the group pots...maybe a next year purchase!

Talfuchre,

I have the REI T-2 and I love it. Light, can be used as a tarp with fly and foorptint, easy setup color coded poles and sleeves and roomy to boot! I just got mine this year and used it in The Chattooga River Scenic area in NE GA and The Smokies in Tenn. I am planning on taking it to the Cohutta wilderness in NW GA and the Amicalola Falls to Nels Gap section of the AT in the spring.I think you'll like this one, have not had an issue or complaint with it yet. Enjoy getting out and using it!

Rocky,

I the group pot is nice - it comes with a stand, and a pan / pot adapter. It would work then with any pot you wanted to put on top.

Stretch,

84 x 68" is the base of the tent. I can also sit my Sasquatch self up in the middle - nice.

Falcon,

Thanks - I was so torn between the T2 and the T3 - I only went with the T3 because of my height. You have nice kit too - and the price was good.

great kit man, so when are you headed out on the trail? what sleeping bag and pad did you order?

Boomstick,

I am headed out next week, I have to wait for the pack to come in.

I was going to get a different pad - but I ended up getting the REI 1/2 version. I felt no difference, it was 1/2 the price, and came with compression straps and a stuff sack.
