New Bama Clay

What do you think about the FSH compared to the NMSFNO? With the same size blades (almost identical profiles), do you favor one over the other? For me, it came down to the handle, I prefer the Fusion handle for a chopper.

The blade profiles are similar but not identical. The FSH has a wider blade, and it's also a decent bit thicker, putting more weight towards the tip. I personally am not a big fan of the fusion handle, so that's more points against it. The FSH definitely chops better, but I prefer the more svelte balance and feel of the NMSFNO, and also the hand-shaped micarta handles are awesome.

I'm not a huge chopper fan though - I use big knives for more machete-like tasks, brush clearing and so forth, and for log splitting, where blade-heavy balance doesn't really help you. In those sorts of tasks, the NMSFNO is the clear winner IMHO.

The FSH is a fun knife to have in a "holy crap that's a beast" sort of way, but the NMSFNO fits my needs a lot better. If I could only keep one, it would definitely be the NMSFNO.

The newer black blades I have are nowhere near as rough as the Bama. They have a slight crinkle to them, but this stuff is crazy.

The tan BATAC i have definitely has a sandpapery feel to it as well...id say the black is in its own class between smooth and rough. my OD NMFBM is the smoothest of them all....

im getting deja vu...

Personally, I like the rougher Bama Clay coating MUCH MUCH better! It is very similar to our old desert tan in its sandy, gritty nature. . . .

We primarily supply Military personnel where reflectivity is an issue. With this in mind, . . . if you ever find yourself trying to take cover in an Alabama mud pit under heavy, incoming fire . . . you'll be thanking me!!!!!. . .

Remember also that you can now sharpen your other blades on your new Bama Clay coated models while maintaining your dapper manicure in even the harshest of survival scenarios.!!!!!! ;)

. . . I know. . . it's like we've thought of everything!!!!! :D

On a serious note, we did reformulate the Bama Clay coating in order to increase the non-reflectivity of the finish.

Let's Drink!!!!
