New bandsaw available

Happy bday!! I have the cheap swag table and cut a slot in front and welded the back to make blade changes way easier! Highly recommend this setup! I made a little stand w steel tubing IMG_2306.jpegand clamped it down in a vice on my bench

The new saw came in today. This evening I was able to assemble the stand and get the thing upright. The saw itself is too tall to mount on any of my benches, so it has to be on it's stand.
It's going to me quite a bit wider than the 4 X 6, so it looks like I may have to mount it on locking casters so I can move it as necessary to get to the other tools in that area.
Sorry, no pictures tonight. My back was killing me after contorting to get the base attached. The whole thing only weighs 80 lbs.
Musical job tomorrow night, so it may be the weekend before I get it finished.
I was able to find another spot for the 4 X 6 in another area. Still might bench mount it.

The blade slot in the table is a little wide for me, as I cut quite a few very small parts.
I may make a table overlay with a narrower slot.
Motor runs smooth and quiet. Speed range is good.
Not sure about the laser marker. Is it supposed to line up with the blade? I think there is an Allen adjustment on it.
Maybe tomorrow I'll actually cut something with it! Been very busy with other endeavors.

Did a little cutting this evening. While the motor is whisper-quiet, the metal table acts like a cymbal when cutting metal. It's LOUD!
The table is cast iron. I think I'll take it off and degrease the bottom, and pour the segments full of casting epoxy mixed with sand to quiet it down.
Then, I'm going to clamp a 12 X 12 piece of vinyl floor tile on the top. That should quiet it down, and I can remove the floor tile when I need to use the fence.
It cuts great, BTW!

Tonight I pulled the table and attached foam yoga mat material in all the recesses, secured with silicone.
I also made a new table insert out of Micarta with a much narrower blade slot for precision sawing. I can't tilt the table with this insert in place, but I can just knock it out and put the original aluminum insert in place if I ever need to tilt. Also made a shelf in the stand to hold accessories.

When I put the table back on the sound was a little quieter and lower pitched. I then siliconed pieces of Armorflex insulation inside the upper and lower blade-access doors. Still loud. I'm going to have to insulate everywhere I can inside and out. It's like a giant violin, cello, bass screeching when I cut metal.

I do much of my work at night and this thing is so loud it will disturb the neighbors and require ear protection. Glad I'm keeping the old 4 X 6!

I'll try to post some pictures later.

Very cool. If you've got the money, grizzly also makes their "bear crawl" mobile bases which are very nice. I've got one on my plainer and wood cutting bandsaw they work great. The tablesaw is probably next.

Got to admit I never thought of trying to quiet my bandsaw down, I just wear earmuffs... :)

I just ordered quite a bit of self adhesive sound insulation for it.
I would have to buy earmuffs for the neighbors!

I know cutting thin titanium on a bandsaw will blow your ears out in short time. I always use earmuffs when cutting metal, I don’t have any neighbors though.

The old 4 X 6 is pretty quiet. If I can't get this one silenced, I can always use it at night.

As an aside, if local code enforcement will approve it, I think I'll add a 12 X 16 addition on my shop. When we built the first addition, I asked for a porch and it ended up being 3 feet wide. Will be absorbing it into the old addition, and that will add 12 X 3 feet.

You might want to checkout the sound and vibration dampener sheets that are used by car stereo enthusiasts and installers.

Wouldn't it bother people more at night? .I was running my planer around 8:30 or so one night when I got a phone call from one of my friends. She asked if I was running my planer. She lives half a mile away. It was a cold still night but even so.... I don't run the planer after8:00 anymore. Good deal on the shop addition!

Soundproofing came in yesterday, and I spent quite a bit of time working on the saw. Still noisy!
I think most of the resonance is coming from the table, so I got a can of spray automotive undercoating and went after the underside. Let it dry overnight and will probably reassemble and test today.
Tightened the blade also.
Pics later.

I was finally able to get to the shop last night. I put the table back on the newly silenced saw.
Tried a sample cut. Better- but still loud.
I put the plastic floor tile back on the table and tried again. Success! Pretty quiet.
Maybe pics later- forgot my phone last night.

Here are some pics. I even put a strip of insulation down the main beam.
Put it under the top of the stand. Put it almost everywhere I could.
I was walking around the machine, tapping it with a little hammer. If I heard a ring, it got insulation there!
