New bark river kepart in 3v with thin stock ((wowzy , wowzy, wowzy))

beautiful bird and BRK's smithhammer! Any chance we could get another good photo of that bow too?

You bet - it's a 56" hybrid longbow called the "Thunderchild" made by Big Jim:

Made of bocote and rosewood, bamboo limb cores, and a beaverskin grip.

Great little bow and Jim's craftsmanship is impeccable.

Getting back on track - I'm seriously impressed with this Kephart. It's done everything I've asked of it so far, and done it well. If it's possible to improve on such a simple and classic design, I believe Bark River has in this case.

The word is that there is no intention for a follow-up run of these in the near future, despite how quickly they're selling out. That could change if the dealers want to make another run happen (and I'd be surprised if they didn't, given the success so far), but if you want one, you might want to grab it soon!

Your bow compliments the kephart.

Mine is scheduled to arrive on Thursday

Beautiful piece, thanks so much for sharing! I've wondered about those with the buffalo nickel for while.

I hope they end up keeping them on as a standard run as after tax season I'd love to try one out!

Started a little spoon project with the Kephart this afternoon. More to come...

I love this new knife. The thin steel really slices well and the 3V gives it plenty of toughness.

Continued refining the spoon today with the Kephart, past what you see in the pic above. Not much left to do but sand it down and carve out the bowl (for which I'll use a curved Mora carving knife). I haven't touched the edge on the Kephart at all since it arrived. And yet even with everything I've done with it over the past week, and after the project above, it was still slicing paper cleanly - a testament to the awesomeness of 3V:

After taking the pic above, I stropped it for about 3 minutes with black and green and it's back to being crazy sharp again...

Finished up the spoon today. Other than drilling the hole for the lanyard, the rest was all done with the Kephart, sandpaper and a few coals to burn out the bowl.

Oh, and I used my Hudson Bay Camp knife to prep the fire...

I like the thinner blades myself, I never really understood the need for thicker than an 1/8"

Smithhammer, I'm envious of you living in Idaho and hunting your own food, that's amazing.
living in the city (Los Angeles) we can't easily experience that. :-)

Yeah, Big Jim makes two longbow models - the short, forward handle "Thunderchild" and the more standard deflex/reflex "Buffalo Bow." On the former he places the nickel with the Indian Head visible, and on the Buffalo Bows he flips it over:

Horace felt the same way, and I agree.

My Kephart arrived today. Better late than never. Thrilled so far

Looks good, Jon! Go get that thing dirty!
