This is my first post here, but I've been hiding in the shadows for a while.

Here's a belt sander I finally got going this week. I started buying parts for this in 2006 after reading "The wonder of Knife Making" by Wayne Goddard.

It runs a 2x72 belt. The drive wheels are from Sun Ray http://www.sunray-inc.com/ It has a 3/4" shaft I bought at "Rural King" and had a buddy of mine put a key way in it. The body is made from an old Chatsworth computer rack we threw away at work. It's powered by an old Maytag motor. It could use something bigger, but this will do for now. I'm still working on the tool rest...What's on there now is just temporary.

I've got almost $200 bucks in the thing so far, but it seems to work pretty good.

Now I've just need to practice grinding bevels and I should be on my way!

Looks pretty good! Could you tell me a little about how you did the tracking?

Looks like he has kind of a prism set up on the top of the grinder with a T-bolt to the right side of it for adjustment. At least to me it does.

Yep, a nice example of what I call "Goddard's upright belt grinder".
I had one like that before I built Her Majesty's Grinder (HMG) New Jersey MKII

The upright does save bunch of space, due to absence of tooling arm, but the same happens to be its main drawback .

That one will get the job done, no doubt about it!

And,.... something is telling me that you are a lefty, aren't you? ( just for the record !?) ;)

Nice work!
