New Benchmade is horribly off center, any advice?

Just received my new 860 yesterday. Great knife and I love it for so many reasons, but the blade is way off center. I already tried to adjust the pivot screw, but to no avail. Any advice?

Thanks!

You can certainly send it in, but you can do it yourself as well. Loosen the frame screws, pressure the blade as needed, retighten. I've yet to run into one I couldn't center.

Wonderful, thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try tonight and worst case scenario I can send it in. I hear that BM customer service is pretty decent, although I've not used them yet.

Well I can't recenter mine that way. My blade grind is off a little I think. It's different from one side to the other. Going to send it in.

Id love to see it work on my military, ive tried that at least 3 times with very little to no gain. And I have bigger things to worry about than sending it in for a little tweek.

I just got my 950 today and it is off center as well. Just from playing with it for the last few hours it is leaving a scuff mark on the blade where it rubs the liner. Which ones are the frame screws. I assume it is the three that hold the two sides of the knife together? Or do I need to adjust the tightness of the ?pivot? Screw. There is a small amount of blade play in the knife but I really like how free the blade moves?

I had 2 benchmades that were not center and rubbing on the liners and scales respectively. Sent them in to BM and they took care of it within 2 weeks. Just have to pay shipping, but otherwise pretty good.
Since in my work I have to be able to notice half a millimeter off, I can see that they don't get these folders perfect center, but for the purpose of these folders it's sure close enough.

+1
I too use this method.
Except I loosen all the screws, pressure the blade and frame 'til the blade is centered.
Then tighten the pivot screw first to lock this position. Then tighten all the other screws.
Then adjust pivot to your liking.

If you call the warranty department they may email you a prepaid shipping label. They did that the last time I called, but it may have been because it was the second time I was sending the same knife in. They are very helpful and courteous!

I have used the above mentioned method for blade centering and it has worked about 50% of the time for me. One thing I have noticed with axis-lock knives is you barely have to move the pivot screw to get the desired affect. Loc-Tite is a must for keeping it in the desired spot.

The only folder that I could not center to my satisfaction by myself was Rukus, but I have got it close enough. The method as described by Keyman. Sometimes have to try couple of times to see how it works.

I had this same problem with a Ritter Griptilian recently. Out of the box the blade was almost touching the scale. I tried every variation on the "loosen screws and re-tighten" trick and the blade always went back to the off center position. I sent it in to Benchmade this week and received an email reply saying they received it and it is in process. Obviously I haven't gotten it back yet, but it is very encouraging that I shipped it from Miami on Monday and received an email from them on Thursday! Anyway, their customer service seems to be top notch and I would recommend that you send it to them and let them take care of you. Good luck.

My Benchmade Bugout is just a little off-centered. I don't want to send it back to Benchmade. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can fix this myself? I love my Bugout by the way, but I'm just OCDing about it. Still, I want it centering.

There are YouTube videos on it. Basically loosen all the grip screws and pivot screw adjust blade, while holding it in position, retighten All screws. here‘s the url to one of the videos that came up when I searched.

While it is usually a simple fix, there are knives that nothing works-the blade is bent.

The thing that gets to me is that we are willing to "fix" brand new knives!! It is not just Benchmade, either.

Let them know that they screwed the pooch again! Make them fix it and pay shipping both ways- it is their fault. Personally, I would contact the seller and send it back to them.

They will continue sending out inferior knives without motivation to make them right in the first place. The only thing that companies understand is MONEY. Cost them MONEY!

Try it, and see if it works.
If it does: you learned something about your knife, and saved postage and time.
If it doesn't send it back, and let them sort it out.
Good luck!

This is a 2013 thread, so the “screwed pooch” is probably dead. :) The 2021 off center post is by someone who says they have obsessive cumpulsive disorder. :)

That's true...
But doesn't Benchmade have a Lifetime Warranty anyway?

I have the same issue. I have tried the screw technique before to no avail and I love my custom Crooked River except for this issue but as you can see it is clearly noticeable. Really would like to avoid sending it in but maybe that is what is required. If anyone has any other techniques I'd love to hear them.
