New Benchmade Proper

Looks cooler than the other one. I had a red G10 sheepsfoot. Didn't like that saber grind, so I reground it flat/convex, much thinner than factory. Didn't feel much like a traditional to me, but the micarta might be closer, and the clip point blade is probably a step up.

Neat. I suspect it sold pretty well, then. I do prefer the first blade shape, though.

What SYL said.
If I were a single blade enthusiast, I'd likely go after one. But I prefer multi-blade knives, so at least for now, I shall look and admire, but not buy.

The shape of the clip point looks odd to me (then again, so did the blade shape on the original Proper).

I recently saw a photo with a Proper next to some other common traditional folders and realized that it was larger than I thought. Having seen that comparison shot, it seems to me like the Proper would be bulky, but I haven't handled one so that's just my expectation.

Before I got into traditional pocket knives, Benchmade was my go-to for years. I like that they're trying something new, and I'm sure the quality is there, but I'm struggling to see the appeal of this knife.

I unserstand the Proper is a big seller for BM. I'm holding out for a Proper with a caplifter/screwdriver. If the sales are as strong as what's being suggested then it's just a matter of time.
From what I can tell, with it being screwed together instead of pinned together, the Proper design is just begging for a screwdriver add on.

I like the shape of the handle, but not the blade. I don’t care for the look of the nail nick. It looks pinchable, so do away with it and make it a full flat grind. That would bring it closer to something I might buy.

The blade looks too short in relation to the handle length. Also it could use a swedge from the tip to the top of the spine to give it some more visual appeal (edit: the sheepfoot version has a nice swedge along the top). I would prefer the original with the sheepsfoot blade. It was a little odd looking, but that is alright for a work knife. This clip point version might just be plain unattractive.

Yeah, that's an odd looking clip point. They have what I consider to be the nicest looking clip point blade I've ever seen on the crooked river...and then they put that out. I don't think they need to recreate the sheepsfoot or the clip point since making a modern slip joint is pretty cool already, so I don't understand the weird shapes. I think they're cool in general, but I won't try them because of the weak springs.

odd is generous, im gonna go with lazy :D it sort of reminds me of some of Schatt and Morgan's "clip points" . I think this is benchmade's attempt to try for new markets, its a good attempt but not for me.

I thing the stubby looking blade is because they are trying to keep the blade length under 3 inches, which is the limit in many locals, while still maintain a handle that is more than 3 finger, which is what the modern knives shoot for.

It's making compromises to legalities and market segments. Compromise, meh.

I think Benchmade had a good idea with the Proper, but Mike Latham just stomped all over their hopes and dreams with his LionSteel collaboration Euro Barlow/Shuffler. Better materials (titanium, M390, and lots of cover options) and fit and finish at the same price point along with customization options? That's kind of what killed the Proper for me.

Knifeswapper aka Dreamstomper :D

Too late for me. I have old and new trads, this does not trigger anything for me at all. I do have a Benchmade that is non-trad, still warming to it. Now that Lionsteel Barlow, is the bees knees!
