New Benchmade

Anyone have a line on one of these yet?

That is a fantastic looking knife.
I'm wondering, however: what is the point of one locking blade and one non-locking blade?
Also, it seems like it would make more sense to have two different blade types rather than two wharncliffes.

i agree, having two different blade styles would make more sense, like one blunt pointed one like a sheepsfoot, and a pointed one like a drop point or clip

Scanned this pic from the aforementioned August 2002 edition of Blade Magazine (page 27). Shows the second blade...

I think that the design is very cool. It mixes the old with the new (traditional slipjoint with high tech locking blade.) I just with it had more of the traditional slipjoint styling, like wood, stag, or bone handles and a clip-point main blade.
That is just my opinion, I still really like the design.

I kind of agree about wishing it had two different blade styles, a wharncliffe and clip point, maybe.

But, I know why I'd like a locking and non-locking blade. I'd say fully half my everyday knife usage is: pull out knife, make a single little cut in something, put knife away. In those cases, I don't need to pull out a relatively big blade to cut the little plastic tag off my new shirt, and then have to unlock it. A tiny slip joint is just as safe, and much faster: pull out, cut, fold. I would make the slip joint frighteningly sharp -- 15 degrees per side at most -- and probably use it as much as the bigger blade.

My current carry these days is usually an endura/axis/etc. for bigger usage, and a small knife (usually a Kershaw black Chive) for small, quick use. I use the Chive as much as I use the big folder. This would let me carry just one knife, but arguably be even more efficient than carrying two.

My only real concern about that Benchmade is that that particular style of handle, where there's a single ridge that's supposed to divide your fingers into 2+2, almost never fits my hand right. The Native doesn't work for me either, for the same reason. I know this handle style works well for most people, just not for me.

Thanks for posting that pic!

It looks even nicer from that angle, the main blade that is and the shape of the handle as well, not to sure about the small blade, but I can live with it, now I have to get one!
