New Benchmades? Spill the beans!

Just got my "Cutlery Shoppe" knife store magazine today. On the front cover they had pics of new Benchmades that will be coming out soon. They had neither pricing nor final specs. (The Benchmade web site said nothing, of course; they are the last to put anything up). BUT the pics were beautiful!

One is the BM 770, a new Osborne Axis. It looks like a smaller version of the 940, but with polished carbon fiber scales. Absolutely stunning!

The other is the BM 450, a Terzuola, small linerlock, looks like plain Ti scales. it didn't have a thumb stud.

Anyone know more about these? Dexter? I'd scan & post the pics, but can't get to a scanner right now.

Don't point at me!

I'm just the magazine guy...they don't tell us squat until the knives are released

From what you describe, sounds like the new knives are real winners. Can't wait to see that Osborne!

I just got off the phone with BM and the new Osborne, 770 was shipped yesterday from the factory to brick and mortar stores. I have one reserved for me.

Summerland, I also received the Cutlerly Shoppe flyer and almost tore the thing apart looking for specs and prices and when I went back to the TEASER page found that it's just that a teaser. In most of my dealings with the Cutlerly Shoppe I call....they don't have available....I call many weeks later...nada, I some times think they are just checking to see how many hits they receive before placing an order, very frustrating to say the least....this was before I found this wonderful Bladeforums site....

The 770 is a knockout. I hope to see it at the on line knife shops soon.

It's hard to say for sure from the picture, but it appears as though the axis lock on the 770 may have scaled down in size a bit to better match the size of the folder. I know a lot folks around here felt the axis lock on the 705 was too large, so maybe BM is listening to us?

I look forward to handling one, since from the picture, it really looks awkward. The sculpted handle doesn't appear to be very ergonomic, but again, only handling will tell.

Why again is the axis mech too big on the 705?

Professor.

You fellas should see the new Elishewitz collaboration. Ti bolsters, wood scales, looks just like one of Als customs. Fit and finish is on the money. Action on the prototype was smooth and lockup tight. And at a MSRP of only $200. Which means street price about $150! Start drooling...

Speaking of Elishewitz, the handle on the 770 looks like something Allen would do.

Gary, thanks for picture!

Model 770 looks cool and with CF scales it should be light like feather. Do you have some specifications?

You are welcome for the pic guys, but no specs yet...like to see the one that Nakano is talking about as well!

Oh man, I've been waiting for a new collaboration with Al for a while. Does anyone have anymore specs? Blade style, length, wood type, release date? I hope they do a traditional Al tanto blade.

Sounds cool!

Glad to see bolsters on factory tac folders. It's much easier for them to laser cut a G-10, aluminum, or ti handle than to fuss around with getting the fit and finish of the transition between the bolsters and the scale material (as evidenced with the early Boker Brends that some were terrible fit and finish in that area). Does the new Elishewitz have a standard BM style three screw black clip or a clip like the fat, stubby, curvy ones that he uses on his customs?

Also, I'd really love to see BM do a bigger Terzuola model, perhaps with a 3.5" to 4" blade. THAT would be sweet!

It may be just a trick of the light, but it almost looks like the bevels on the 770 are hollow ground. Add that to Bronco's observation that the axis lock appears scaled down, and it really does look like a killer knife!

Professor,
The 705 is essentially a scaled down version of the 4 inch bladed 710, yet each shares the same axis lock mechanism. Many expressed the opinion that while the size of the axis lock was a good match to the 710, it was too large and overpowered the smaller 705. Suggestions were subsequently made that a scaled down version of the axis lock mechanism would be more appropriate for 705 sized folders. We may be seeing the result of that discussion on the 770.
