New BK2 Sheath (for Ethan)

So wait - does this new one allow reversible carry if you flip the sheath (as with the necker)? I was considering picking up a gen 2 BK-2 as my gen 1 is on loan to a friend - but being a lefty, I definitely need an ambidextrous sheath. While the gen 1 sheath gave me issues (it caused micro-dings in the edge if I gave it a straight pull without leading with the spine), it did allow for left hip carry without having the edge awkwardly facing forward.

If I were to pick up another, I would want to either attach it to my left hip or the right shoulder strap of my camelbak... both requiring that the sheath be flipped.

Yep is totally reversable, but I dont even use the belt loop, the sheath is that good a fit the retention strap isn't needed (and yes the retention is tight, but not overly, just like the whole sheath- perfect!).

I know this is an old thread, but rather than starting a new one I thought I'd ask here since it is about the sheath. First is that sheath being sold with all the BK2s? Second, can you turn the nylon belt strap around so the handle hangs down?

Yes.

No. Rivets.

yeah i just got my bk2 yesterday and the sheath is very nice. it has nice retention in the sheath with no rattle or noise.

You can obviously drill the rivets out and change it, rivet it back or use another method, like hardware or sumpin.

just got the BK2 and it's a beauty. it's my first exposure to anything ka-bar or becker. i haven't had a chance to do much with it yet, but right now i'm trying to break in the sheath a bit. boy does it hold in there tight. it basically kills my thumb trying to remove it. will it wear in a bit and become easier to pull out with time?

Yes, or you can drill the rivet out closest to the top, on the blade side. Some of the guys one here are doing some work to make the sheath function better for them. Do some searching and see what others have done.

Thanks for the recommendation. Alternately I'll end up with a nice calloused thumb!

well i think i solved my problem with the extraordinarily tight sheath.

about 10 seconds of the hair dryer blown into the empty sheath. then the knife inserted and removed about a dozen times... now i can pull it out without having to pry the thumb rest so hard. woo! that was my one hang up on this, my first "real" knife! :D

Good to hear. Welcome to the Becker forum and Bladeforums. Glad you're here.

The BK2 is my favorite, and one badass blade for sure. Considering the design is almost 30yrs old, that says alot. You gotta good blade there, post up some pics, and feed it, or it will bite you.
