New BK9 came today need some advice.......Update.

maybe kabar should stop selling via amazon?

best policy: if you send it back, put a NOTE inside the handle "this is a defective return, please see BF.com code: "11000101010" and make a post ;)

then the NEXT person will perhaps get a clue.

i like amazon for a lot of things, but if they are re-selling defective merch, they should be cut off at the nuts for this. imho.

in particular, i would as the OP, contact amazon and get a senior person on the phone and give them an ear full. they should only be selling new in box merch.

the OP's knife didn't even come with a proper box, let alone literature. as a collector type, that's just incredibly heinous ;D but for regular users? god no.

what if the guy who owned this knife last Summer and returned it was chopping poison ivy all day? :) heh.

Good idea Bladite will include a note don't want someone else to be disappointed.

Came home from work and the replacement BK9 was here.
Off to a better start it is in a Ka-Bar box.

Im much happier now just have to decide what to do with or to it now :)

Scratches I don't mind the bent tip thing I wasn't real happy about

everything I've ever gotten from amazon I've been happy with. there were a few blades that had minor issues but nothing that bothered me enough to send it back.

I don't deal with Amazon any more. Got their credit card to purchase a textbook, which you can use on the site before it arrives. Got a credit card bill for said credit card a couple weeks later to the tune of 6.5K dollars. Yeah, that's right. I hadn't even received the card yet. Took them 14 months to make it right. All I did was buy a textbook using their card on their site. I called them to complain about the appalling lack of security, and they basically told me to shove it. No "We'll look into it," no "I'm so sorry that that happened to you," just "It was probably your fault. You should be more careful next time." That from a manager-type. Well, Amazon gets NONE of my business any more.

Glad they at least sorted you out, but that's stupid and sleazy to resell a defective item. It's been a long time since I've been able to find a cheaper price on Amazon for a Becker or Ka-bar than I can find at my usual vendor though, so who cares.

Wow that insane, sorry to hear that. I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

I'm wondering if you hadn't received your card yet because someone else already did...

I have an HI ang khola from the days when uncle bill martino still answered questions about the knives. it is 12-13 years old and i only ever chopped a couple of branches with it, it is like new. it is such a work of art that i hate to use it. should i swap it for beckers or tops or something more functional and less an art piece?

well, as you are the original owner, you have a lifetime warranty on that HI :)

as well, since it's "pre-UB" (uncle bill) as they say, it's worth more than a new piece... so you could buy another one and keep that one as a memento... or use it from time to time.

still, i'd probably go and buy a few good choppers from different makers, including Mr Becker. wait a bit, and you'll be able to get a Machax soon.

amazon will sell you a Becker. you'll want to make sure it's new in box, as amazon seems to be sneaky lately about that, or you could buy from a trusted vendor that we all know and like. they're not hard to find, and they're much pickier about what they sell you and the condition.

Nope, it came new, unsigned, still glued to the paper and everything, just like it was supposed to. Their card processing system is clearly unsecure, or else they've got crooks working for them. It wasn't like it took an unreasonable period of time to arrive either; there were purchases posting to the card literally the same day that I signed up for it.

@kdaytonh, I'm jealous, that's a collectors item for sure. I would not let that leave my collection for anything. But it's hard to go wrong with a Becker, particularly a 9. If you're thinking about buying a Becker, think no longer. Although obviously I'd stay the H--- away from Amazon, personally. YMMV.

I buy most anything I can from amazon, Including all my Beckers and never had a problem like this but I only buy things that are shipped and sold by amazon itself and not the 'sold by X and fulfilled by amazon' listings. People send in their junk to the ama warehouses to be sold as new. That prime shipping really pays off over a year.

I've always had good service from Amazon.
I buy most everything I can there also. Knives, tools, electronics and high end camera gear. Never had a problem except one time many years ago I bought a book from them (gasp! - Yes, a real book printed on paper and everything - remember those days?) I didn't get around to reading the book for several months, but when I did I found that some of the packets of pages were bound in upside down and out of order. Even though it was several months after purchase, I called Amazon Customer Service and explained what was wrong. I didn't even hardly get to finish the sentence about the problem when the guy said to toss the defective one in a wastebasket and I would have a replacement by next day air. No charge, no questions, and got the new book the next day. Can't ask for much more than that.

Here it is after beating on it a bit...............Im liking it a lot it was still razor sharp after splitting this oak
