New Blind Horse Knives Bushcrafter - Large Cascade (a closer look)

+1 I prefer the look of most of the sheaths I've seen BHK use.

Me too and they use heavier leather.

I can see why Derrick did it ... he has a good relationship with SSSS and he might have had a pile of these in inventory.

Probably kept the price of the knife down a bit and helped his inventory.

Maybe thats why he had them design a new knife for them as well as carrying their others, help use up them SSSS.

Derrick is a smart businessman and he did ask for a new design and LT had this one already laying around. This knife is exclusive to KSF and I'm sure it will be popular as it seems to be a great knife. Means good sales for both companies.

I know the question was intended for LightGuy and I should keep my mouth shut.

My apologies.

What do you think of the sheath?

rob

I really like it. It has very thick, seemingly nice cuts of leather and feels put together very well. I was a little concerned at first because the thickness and stiffness of the leather made it a little hard to get the knife in and out of the sheath. But after the knife has been in the sheath a couple days, it seems to fit like a glove. I'm really diggin' it. Nice and compact, like the shape, rides on the belt nicely...no complaints here!

I'd start with 000 steelwool & work my way up untill it's rough enough.(the lower the # the finer the fiber of steelwool, you can use it as fire tinder too.)
Scotchbrite will work fine if thats all you have on hand.
And put some tape on the blade if you're worried about scratching it.:)

Well, I used 0000 steel wool and it did a good job of taking the shine completely away. It is now a nice matte finish, but it's smooth as a baby's butt... so I bought 00 steel wool as well. Should I use this to create a little more grippiness? I'm a little nervious about jumping strait to sandpaper, but don't want to spin my wheels either...

I would contact the BHK guys personally and tell them what you are wanting to do and see what they say. Good reason as any to b.s. with the makers of your new baby and stay on the safe side with the little project.

Well I just took your advice and called BHK. I spoke with L.T. - what a great guy! He was very informative, and recommended I try a medium scotch bright pad. So I'll give that a try and see how it goes!

Good stuff man

I've seen a few people on the forums say that they usually get to speak to L.T. and it's a nice experience. Look forward to hearing how you like the finished project.

Well - after some buffing with a light steel wool and then with a medium Scotch Bright pad, I have a very nice matte finish! Thanks for the tips - I'm very happy with how it turned out. It has a great smooth feel now, but with a little more grippy-ness - especially when wet.

Here's a couple of pics of the finished product:
