New BM EDC?

personally i like the 930 for EDC, but the 741 is also nice for a large folder

never been a fan of the 710. carried one for a while and sold it off because didn't like the ergos. just felt like a big hunk of plastic in the hand.

Of those choices I'd pick the 950, one of my favorites. The 940's in the same family and I'd give it the second choice.

And yes, I'd vote for the 710 if it was an option outside of your selections.

Just my opine.

WoW! Thanks for all the input, I thought I'd add a few things. I currently carry an Endura4 SE, so I prefer a bit bigger for EDC. On the scaring the sheeple issue, my boss really wouldn't mind if I carried a Glock 21sf openly so that's not too much an issue, I can basically carry whatever I want as long as it isn't a fixed blade. I need to handle the 940, and the 710. I get confused on some people replies with only the numbers though as I haven't memorized them. :o Again, thanks for all the input and I welcome more!

The 940 will not stack up to the one you said you loved, they have opposite characteristics if you ask me.

I decided I should give a Benchmade a try for space in my pocket. I usually use Spydercos, but I would like to try something other than my mini-griptillian. Now I need your help on deciding which model to get! I've narrowed it down to a few choices.
BM 950 Rift - I handled this one at a recent gunshow and I love the handle!
BM 741 Onslaught - I just like how alive this big blade is in my hand! Probaly not the best choice for EDC, but it isn't too heavy though!
BM 940 - I haven't handled this one yet, forgot while I at BPS, but does it stack up to the other choices?
BM 520 Presidio - I think the one in 154cm is in the sameish price range as the others, and I like the handles too!
So out of these four, which is the best choice for EDC?

The BM 950 Rift would be you best bet,the 940 has a very slim handle make it hard to hold if you have a large hands, and with the 520 I don't know if you found the handle texture a bit weird. IMHO,you should also consider looking at the 710.

The 950 Rift. It is my favorite knife period. I'm personally not a big fan of the 940 because of the aluminum handles and the 710 doesn't really do it for me either.

To me the Rift is the perfect size, has a lot of blade for the handle length (good ratio), has a blade that thins out nicely towards the cutting edge which makes it cut well yet still has a strong tip with the reverse tanto. I have carried one every single day in my right front pocket since it came out a couple years ago and it has been the perfect knife for me. I have to carry multiple knives just so my other knives get some carry time since it never leaves that RF pocket.

^ I was wondering when you would show up! You're the reason I even knew about the rift in the first place! Thanks! I really want to get the Rift, but I don't have $110 or so dollars on hand, so I decided to get the 440c Presidio with the Noryl GTX handles, till I can save for the Rift!

I didn't think that the 710 was in this price range? Is it? Cool! Thanks for your opinion!

I've bought a couple NIB on this forum for $100 to my door.
Without a doubt, the 710 is my top choice for first BM!!!
Mine is in my pocket right now.

Also, look at the HK12205. Another fine knife from BM.

I have 943's in Ti, Al, and C.F. I like them all better than my Enduras. I just wish Benchmade offered a premium steel. If you get a 940/943 with a clip point and don't like it, BM will install a reverse tanto for around $60.00. Send in just the handle, and you will have a spare blade.

Where did you get the $60 from? It is my understanding that uncoated blades are $25 and coated are $35. Just wondering why our numbers are different.

THe $ 25/35 are for blade swaps - if they keep your blade..
tiguy7 was talking about a 2nd blade - but that number is new to me, too.

RIFT!!
It's the total package:
1. Great ergonomics
2. Blade profile and grind make it a great slicer
3. Axis lock
4. Amazing aesthetics
5. Might not scare the sheeple, but it could if you wanted.
6. Blade to handle ratio is spot on

It's a cool knife, and this huge grin spreads across my face every time I remind myself that I own one.
