I just got my Benchmade 710 D2 today, my god what an ugly looking edge. I was sharp enough slice the flap of skin off my finger tip (playing with the axis lock and let my pinky slid over the edge, no blood) but it look like they chewed the edge into the blade. Time to test my honing skills to get what I would consider a nice edge on it.
Love the knife other wise.

Ive been thinking of picking one of these up lately. How do you like the size? Has the action smoothed out? The one I was playing with in a gun store here in my town seemed great, albeit a little bit stiff. It seemed like it would smooth out alot after a few dozen openings/closings.

Thats usually just a pivot tension problem, all benchmades I have handled axis lock or not are extremely smooth.

Mine was smooth as silk out the box and the edge wasn't rough, but I did have to use the sharpmaker on it. To get it as sharp as it could get.
Pretty nice size and it's well balanced.

Just got mine today, silky smooth action, sharp but the edge looked dull, 30 minutes with some diamod hones and popin hairs, by the end of next week should be perfect. I really like this knife even with the ugly edge I think it will be my EDC, fits me just fine

I have come from 440c, to Aus8A, to D2. You can really feel the difference when sharpening the 3. You really have to work with the D2 to get the bur up, alleast with my Smiths diamond hones, I will be changing to a lansky soon, I like the narrower hones better.
