If the reason for the new habaki bolsters was posted in the previous forum, I must have missed it. Are these bolsters supposed to be stronger, or are they to indicate that the khukuris were made in Birghorka?

When Jim March sent the katana over, it had a habaki on it and the kamis had to be told the reason for it's presence - so that once the sword is drawn from the scabbard an inch or two the rest of the blade could come out free of any drag.

My guess is the kamis must have thought it made sense and figured "we can do that too!". Well, it sure sounds like it coulda happened something like that.

Thanks for asking and let's see if Uncle Bill knows. If not, let's see if he can find out.

Bro I think you're pretty close.

Seems to me that the habaki was ordered on a khukuri and it worked so well to prevent loose lockup in the scabbard it became standard, but I don't know for sure either.

And like you said, our elder Bro will know for sure.

The strange thing is that I have yet to get anything with the habaki bolster on it.

Thanks Brian!
When I was looking in the archives the other day I ran across many things that I had forgotten about.
Methinks I should perhaps spend more time in the archives when the forum is slow.

Thanks for the help guys. I didn't think the kamis had been making habaki bolsters that long (seems like only yesterday the habakis first started appearing).
