OK, now I went to Sasuga Books' website, and found out they're in Cambridge, MA, which just happens to be right next door to where I work. If Danzan's order goes through no problem, I'd be happy to get books for people - maybe place an order for a certain number of 'em, and send them off to their respective owners when they come in... let me know.

I have no idea if it was Laci's, Farids, or Ryan's. I do know that I saw Steve's quite a while ago. Tamishigiri may be able to shed some light on who originally did it and when. In the past Farid has been notorius for Emerson knock-offs.

Guys, n maybe a lady.

The latest issue of Knife has the Laci design Farid made RAD folder on it. It looks great. Plus, has a picture of the folding UUK and all the wierd designs that Laci came up with. Some do look great. The issue with Steve Ryan was a few months back. Now his knives rock. Can't wait till my order comes in. John Hollister Thanks again. Steve finally emailed me a few days ago.

Now, I gotta go to the bookstore n see if I can get this new book.

Ernies knife doesn't have all of the screws and stuff in his. Nor does it have that big cut out on the side. I'll bet it doesn't even fold. Wait! You mean the fixed blade isn't Ernies!?!?!

Hello All,
I just want to clarify my previous question regarding the Farid Laci effort. I don't know much about Laci's RAD other than a few photos in mags and on his website. I have never seen Ryan's knife. I was just curious since the Ryan factor was news to me.
Laci's stuff has always been very original in design and use. It seems that good ideas are often simultaneously realized by folks who share similar interests.
On the other hand, Farid's designs have looked just like Ernie's for as long as I can remember. The fit and finish has usually been a bit less than that of Ernie's though, and they have been heavier too. From what I have read about his knives many have been sold to British soldiers...As if 100lbs of gear isn't enough to hump!

I just got my copy of this book, and it is a MUST see. The knives are all great tac knives, especially the big section on Striders. However, the creme de la creme are the several pristine, perfect Emersons a guy named Rance has showcased. These fixed blades are early examples of Ernie's work that will probably never be replicated, and were made in extremely small numbers to begin with. (He looks vaguely familiar, too, but its hard to say where I've seen his picture...) This is as close as 99% of us will ever get to Emersons like these.

Let me respond to the Ryan/ Szabo issue.
I saw the RAD easily more than a year ago. nearly two actually. I saw some refinements
that I thought could be done to the knife that were more of what my concept of the knife I would like, should look like.

I contacted Laci Szabo at Steve's request and told him what I was requesting Steve to do. The Gentleman that Laci is, said no problem. I exclaimed it was a onesey, twosey thing and we in no way were going to market it. Laci knows my line of work and understood my needs and the unselfish gentleman he is accomodated myself. I explanined to Steve that WE had agreen light and proceeded w/ the project.

I contacted Steve who I'm close w/. He and I talked and he really did not want to do it at first. I groveled and coaxed him w/ rediculous bribes. He aggreed and after maybe two phone conversations and one visit to Steve's home WE came up w/ the size and demensions he and I worked out. I personally like the Massiveness and aggressiveness of Steve's work and grinds. I selelcted a Tanto Style right hand grind, to my demensions and it has some modifications that retify some of the qualities I wanted in that type of design. Ichiro Nagata heard about it from Steve while he was making mine. He instantly jumped on it as well. Steve made 4 originals. I went to his house and had first pick of ALL or ANY of them. I opted for the one I designed ansd left the others.
They are all excellent and different from any scales steve has done in the past. I did not allow mine to be shot for Sento Knife Book. It is my treasure and it is a special piece. The others are awesome and not inferior just not my slice of bread for my style. I have seen them and manipulated them. They are superb but unique and one must be very cautious when manipulating them. They are MEGA sharp.

This is not a RYAN forum so I do not want to cross the lines of disrespect. I merely thought I would illuminate w/ clarity how these knives came about. Sorry for the delay.

Hope that helps and no disrespect to the Emerson Moderators.

Dirk -

No prob. I'll call 'em monday and see what's what. Let you know what I find out.

Kinokuniya(212-765-1461) in New York says that Sento Knife will arrive in a couple of months. I ordered Kakuto Knife from them and they said to email a back order. kinokuniya@kinokuniya.com. Best I could do. Anyone got a better source that has the book in stock? Thnaks, Dick.

Hi, everyone! I'm new to BladeForum.com and have been enjoying reading the postings.

I just went to www.sasugabooks.com and ordered a copy of "Sento Nifu". This place is the only one I found to even have the book listed. I had tried Kinokuniya Bookstore in San Francisco Japan Center and looking all over the web. By the way, does anyone know where I can buy "Tactical Knife" and what its ISBN is?

See2 - I got an e-mail order confirmation but I think that may just be an auto-reply. I'll let you know if I get an order ship confirmation.

In reference to the question about the Tactical Knives #-the back of mine reads:

ISBN4-88346-043-6

Hope that helps.

Tactical Knives arrived from Kinokuniya bookstore(212-765-1461) with the last two issues of Knife. Great book($30US) and mags($15USper copy), if I could only read Japanese. I will have to find an interpreter! The Mags list a "Wilcox" Commander. Does any one know what that is? The pic show a regular Commmander with "Wilcox" on the right side of the blade? Kinokuniya will get the mags for you on a subscription basis. The photogrpahy is excellent. Sento Knife on order but not expected for a couple of months! Dick

Dick

A "Wilcox" Commander is a regular Commander with the name of the Wilcox company (they make military grade laser sighting devices for firearms) lasered on the right side of the blade.
