I have only had it a couple of hours, but for what it is worth it is a must have.
Thoughts are in this thread. Even if you are not into antique bowies, there is a lot of information that is very well presented.

The hundreds of knives featured in the book also might add perspective to what we consider art knives. (that is a great thread by the way) Many if not most of these old Bowies are about as fancy as they come and they were not made for "safe sitting" purposes for the most part. The work of those old time makers is pretty darn impressive.

Roger.

Google the title or author and pick your best price.

I picked my up from Knife World, but you might be able to find a better price.

IMO You, Danbo and Keith especially will enyoy the book at least to the point of providing a multitude of design ideas as will many makers. To boot there will be some interesting reading.

When ever I comission a bowie, I look at the older Antique Bowie Knife book and this one more than doubles the reference.

I'm looking at it right now. What beautiful things were made in days of old. Definately worth the purchase. I got mine from Mowbray publishing for full sticker price.

I'va had the book for a few days now and have only scratched the surface - but this may be the best knife-related book I have ever purchased. The first day or two I just flipped through the ZILLION pics of antique bowie knives - fascinating stuff indeed. Then I actually started to read the thing and was astounded by the scope. It's about so much more than bowies - it provides a somewhat unique perspective on some decidedly turbulent times in American history when the bowie knife was very much in public awareness.

Money well spent here. A MUST for the bowie enthusiast.

Roger
