Here's a knife I got last week from Bailey Bradshaw. Steel is L6, blade length is 4.5 inches. The lock is a compression lock; you push down on the ring on top of the blade to open it.

It's based on an old hunting knife pattern that was used in German and Austria, some of which also had corkscrews. Here's Bailey's picture of his knife next to the Henckels I sent him. His knife kind of reminds me of a Buck. :D

CONRATULATIONS!! That IS a beautiful knife!! But, the compression lock takes away from the beauty of the knife. Does that make any sense? I wish I could explain what I mean better!!

I think it looks great. The compression lock gives it a unique and distinctive look. Enjoy!

Gorgeous Mike! And very unique,as well.Bailey Bradshaw did some nice job on this knife.

Sweet, good job, Bailey! I like the design changes, looks more comfortable. Are you meant to hold your thumb on that latch as you cut with the blade? Congrats, Mike!

Jose, I think the thumb is supposed to sit in the latch. The latch is curved so my thumb fits well in both of them.

Bailey did a good job of matching the tension on the Henckels. Both lock up real solid but you can break the lock open with the same handing you're holding it in.

Nice, looks like you could get a lot of weight on those cuts. Can you show us a pic of the spine/latch with the blade open? Thanks!

Oh man! Simply outstanding. My hat is off to Bailey for his workmanship and to Mike for commissioning its creation.

Kudos to Bailey for taking on the challenge! AND a beautiful knife!!

Thanks for the compliments. This piece was a bit of a challenge just because it is so different from what I am used to making.(not to mention going through two other blades, one didin't have the right look, the other I broke the heel of the lock notch off while fitting the lock....mental note..... remember to temper before testing the lock)

I was happy with the way it came to gether though, and the action feels just like the Henckles. Can you say BANK VAULT!!

The release latch on top really doesn't get in the way, and is folded back when in use. Tipping it forward and depressing it creates a cam action and raises the locking lug while pushing down on the blade.

I can't say I would want to make many of these, but it was a fun departure. Thanks Mike for the opportunity.

Ahh, okay, that makes sense. So pressing down on the latch, as pictured in the second photo, actually unlocks the blade and closes the blade just a bit, until the latch hits the bolster, and then you can close it the rest of the way with your hand? If that's right, then thanks, you explained it better than a picture would have in much less than 1,000 words...:D

Jose,

I was going to try to take a photo, but Bailey's description is probably better than my bad photo. It does take some pressue to get the lock to disengage but it's done by pressing with the thumb while holding it.

Bailey, I wasn't going to mention the other two blades!

Hey Bailey Riad Nasr here
I sent you an email at Bai***@bradshawcutlery...when you have a sec...Cheers!

No prob, Mike, thanks for sharing.

Great looking knife. Knives like this are why I love Custom knives and make me wonder why I don't have something on order with Bailey!
