My latest knife from Bryan Breeden came in today. This is my fifth knife from Bryan. This one was a complete custom model with extra big handle (5.5"), extra wide blade (1.375" wide), thick steel (5/32" thick) and 4.5" long O1 blade. It is a Beast of a Breeden! I suggested to him it be called the 'Breeden Big Paw' (BBP), but perhaps it will just be my special big knife.

This my first Breeden in mircata scales. I like it :D Bryan leaves his mircata pretty rough making it superbly grippy in feel. Coupled with the big handle, this thing really fills the hand. It is awesome with gloves and mitts which is good given the -18oC temperatures we currently have out here. Also, I find in field work situations that I tend to use leather work gloves often and this knife won't feel cramped under these hard working conditions. This is also my first knife to sport the Bryan 'B' stamp.

Here is the knife with its Breeden siblings. Top knife is the Peacemaker (6" blade); followed by the Big Paw (4.5" blade), pathfinder (5" blade), and kat/custom (3.5").

Its too darn cold and dark to go outside. Okay, maybe one shot :D

But then I had to bring some wood in to get some fuzzies. The big paw did well and push cut paper strips with ease!

Overall, I'm quite happy with this one. Its going to be designated as one of my hard users and will accompany me on some of my field research trips. I can't wait to take it out in the field and give it a go.

Unfortunately, I'm off to Mexico tomorrow morning for a week on business and can't really play with it until I get back. Oh well, it'll have my thoughts while I'm sipping my marguarita night caps.

Looks like a very nice knife. That's a beastly handle. I wouldn't say the blade is all that beastly, though, with as tall a grind as that looks like it should cut great. 5/32" is really a great thickness for a general carry knife, my two favorite knives are that thickness. With good edge geometry it works very good for most anything. May not be suitable for a dedicated vegetable slicer, but it'll do a passable job for sure!

What no batoning veggies with this one?
Great knife.
The pathfinder is still my favorite knife though.

Great knife.

Don't worry - a pineapple test will come sooner or later. Gotta test the heat treat ya know :D :D

Actually I have to say it feels really good in the hand. The handle seems oddly long to look at it, but in the hand it just feels great. The rough mircata is really growing on me and I love how the handle ramps down at the blad junction. This one just feels indestructible.

Glad you got it kgd! It does look like a beast of a knife.

You can't be calling it a tank though, that's my new JK. :D

Looks really solid - hopefully I'll get to see that one at our next meeting.

Have a safe trip and I'll look forward to the full test report when you get back brother.

SWEET!:D

That looks like a mean blade K, BTW you will have a little fun to go with it in about 3 days. ;):D

Hi all,

Ken glad to hear you like your Big Paw knife LOL. Yea I tell ya I like the feel of the micarta on your knife. I did mine that same way and it just stays in your hand.
Great pics as always. I look forward to the pineapple test when you get back LOL
Have great trip.
