Hi all,
For about a month now I have been using a shoulder carry bag by Eagle Creek. Well that is what the tag on the bag says LOL. Here is what it looks like when I carry it.
Here is what I carry in it.
In this pic the survival kit is all packed up in the little black pouch.
Here is what it looks like packed up but with out the flap buckled like in the next pic.
My bag with contents weighs in at 7 pounds and 11 oz s.
Now for the new knife and sheath that I made up over last weekend.
I have made several knives for customers that wanted a 3.75" long blade and 4 to 4.5" long handle. Well after handling the knives that were for them I came to really like the blade length of 3.75" with a 4.25" handle. That blade length and handle length out of all the smaller knives that I have made so far, for others and myself, I feel is just perfect for me. It just flows if you have been fortunte to have found your perfect blade length and handle length you know what I mean. This knife is a Pathfinder design but with a curvy handle where the fingers touch. Here is a few pics of it.
In hand shot. In the back ground you can see the old sheath with the upswept shape of the leather sheath. I have replaced that sheath with the sheath that has a rounded look and a firesteel pouch to it.
I went for hike today and while Kelly Girl sniffed in a rabbits home area. I grabed a stick and shaved up a fuzz stick while waiting on Kelly to move on to another area. The blade thickness is 3/32" and I think it shaved this stick pretty good.
Now onto the sheath and how I carry it on the sling of my kit. About a month back I had a fellow contact me on making him a pathfinder with the same type of spects but a regular Pathfinder handle and he wanted 1/8" thick steel. Well like I said after making a few of them with that blade length and shape and handle length I decided that I was going tomake me one to when I had the time. Normally I make sheaths that are fold over type. But this guy asked if I would make another design. He sent a drawing to me. After looking at it. I starting to make it up and then got it all made up. I knew right then and there that I was going to make me one. This type of sheath you can carry vertical and horizontal. Here is a pic of it.
I decided to carry this new knife and sheath on my shoulder strap. I can carry it right in front of my chest or slide it down and carry it under my left arm. Here is a pic of the chest carry at a angle. I love this type of carry.
Unless I look down or think about it I can not even tell it is there. It just rides so nice like that and is so easy to get at. I wish I had thought to make this type of sheath up long ago.
Since I carry my new knife and sheath like this now I took out the other fixed blade that I was carring in the bag and I took off the swiss army knfe that I was carrying on the sling to. I do have plans to make another sheath this week but with a spearish type point so I could carry my knife right or left handed in the vertical and horizontal postion.
I know some might not like to carry there gear like this, but so far for me I really like to carry my kit this way.
Thanks for looking.
