New brown XHP Native...question

Have you tried heating the locktite? I do it with a small lamp that's quite warm for a bit.

I have no idea what brand of thread locking compound Spyderco uses or whether there's and "industry standard" color code for thread locking compounds? Do you?

FWIW, while I haven't received my brown Native yet, I've removed and relocated a couple dozen Spyderco barrel bolt clips over the years and have never damaged a screw head or required anything other than two nickels and a bit of finger moxie to change them over.

Red is high strength, and I think the assembler used a bit much.

I got it out. Soldering iron for a few seconds. Then just brute force.

Love the knife, And the steel is fantastic!

I just got a new (dealer exclusive?) brown Native 5 in CTS-XHP. This is my first Native and first pinned knife in general.

I just got my Native from Knife Center and like you I do not have a lot of experience with pinned knives. I noticed in the picture above that the pin that goes through your pivot looks a lot like mine. On the clip side the pin is not fully rounded and the edges seem to almost flare upward. The pin does not sit down into recess and those edges are a little sharp. Is your pin like this, and can anyone tell me if this is normal for pinned Spydies? Thanks.

I think it's normal, yeah. Both natives I have had have been like that

Looks just like mine. Normal.

I found using two quarters effective at breaking the screw loose on the clip (it fits the groove quite well). One quarter on each side, and twist in opposite directions to loosen. Takes a bit of force, but it works without stripping it. Might need to support the knife with your knees or have someone else hold it.

@maskedferret,

Two nickels fit perfectly.

First thing I do when I get a knife with that kind of barrell clip is take the screw out and put Loc-tite on the threads and then put it back together. :)
