Hey guys any idea if the new brute will have the swedged spine or not?
I would prefer a non swedged spine, how about you guys and gals.

It is. It will look just like the old ones, but have newer kabar grivory, and kabar stampings.

I'm hoping the grinds have been changed to make them chop better. Seems like Ethan was talking once about how much better the BK9 is and it was something to do with the grinds on the BK1 that needed to be changed. Maybe I'm thinking of the Machax.

Swedges do nothing for me, so I would prefer it "swedgeless".

And I somehow missed that the brute was coming back out, I knew the machax, but not the brute...

I'm also against the swedge.

Any advantage other than reduced weight?

Although I'm certain it'll be a great knife and will definitely be buying this one. What time are we looking at on release? Last I read it was on a "to do" list behind the machax and tweeners.

(any infractions give me a shout and I'll take down)

Ask Bladite, he is the man in the know. ;)

There is a possibility he may have posted it in his super helpful FAQ thread, but you would have to check to find out. I thought it was around the same time as the tweeners, but that is just a guess, and I could be completely wrong on that.

I was looking in the Becker Blade Database, and noticed that the new Brute will be built in Taiwan out of 1085. To me that sounds really similar to the ZK War Sword, but with Becker Handles instead of JAB handles and a slightly different blade shape (although the ZK technically says its made out of SR5 or something like that).

Any idea about the price range on these? I've been debating getting the war sword for my large camp knife, but would prefer the new brute if its in the same price range, it seems like it should be, but since it will be the first full size becker to be built overseas, I'm not sure how it will compare to the current lineup in pricing.

Anyway, I'm just glad I found out these were coming out next year before I pulled the trigger on a War Sword.

swedges are useful on medium or small knives, they just reduce weight on big ones, and really on a chopper, a little extra weight is welcomed.

actually, the brute and patrol machete and machax and tweeners and all things brute should be made in the usa. will have to update the faq to reflect that. generally 1095cv.

nobody knows prices until they're ready. we can speculate, but that's all that would be...

i'm told the new brute and patrol machete will be different, not exavt copies. improved...

dates... as they are no longer planned for taiwan, but usa make, their times got pushed out. like not until mid 2012 is y guess, but i could be wrong. perhaps the powers that be can inform us...

Thanks for the info Bladite. I'm glad to hear that the Becker tradition of being made in the US out of 1095 CroVan is still intact. I'm guessing prices will roughly fall in line with the rest of the lineup (close to the BK9 if I had to guess).

Now its just if they will come out in time for next camping season (by that I mean, after this school year is over, and have time for the outdoors again), thats the big question.

Nope, price will be beyond that of the BK9. One of the terrible side effects of the Brute, is the grind time. It takes alot to grind a Brute. It has several grinds that are not that easy to get done, and its one of the reasons the Brute was the most expensive of the BKTs.

The BK6 and BK1 might be out like Bladite said, mid next year. From what I have been told and seen, the grinds are different, made to cut better and not be such a war club.

Thanks for the info, I guess there isn't anything that can be done about the price. I guess we'll have to wait and see then.

Because I'm new, how much did they go for back then? I read the Becker blade database and it mentioned an MSRP, but what was the street price? Sounds like I might be back to the ZK...

Could I get them to do 1 as a full spine swedgeless brute Moose ? As a custom order ? ..lol
Less Grinding = less work right ?

Personally, I love the look of the swedge. Adds to the awesome factor of the knife.
Please do not remove the swedge from the BK1 I intend to order.

$158 MSRP

About $130 street price.

They look sweet, but for that price, I think I'd need to do some kind of time share :(.

How much was the machax historically? To my untrained eye, the blade shapes look fairly similar (larger recurve on the machax) but the machax just has a tilted handle. What were the other major differences if I may ask?
