Hello I recently bought a buck 110 with a 5160 drop point blade. I have noticed somthing that I do not know if it is normal or not since I have not owned a 110 before.

The top of the blade tang and lock bar are flush with each other but are higher than the handle in the front when the blade is locked open. Also when the blade is locked open the part of the lock bar that you depress to unlock it and up to about 1 1/2" in front of it are recessed below the handle a bit. And when the blade is closed the front of the lock bar is below the handle, and the rear is a little higher.

Is that normal? I don't really think it is but not having a 110 before can't be sure.

There is a very little blade play that I can feel, and the blade is well centered when closed.

That doesn't sound normal. The lock bar should be flush with the frame. Return it for another or send to Buck for repair.

I just received this knife yesterday 2/10/2020. The fit and finish were very good except for the polishing compound left on the knife. It looks great after cleaning.
Here are the front and rear blade lock pivot with the blade closed. This is how a fit and finished knife should look. Happy to say this knife came to me without any problems with it. It is a gamble hit or miss if Q.C. was on that day or off. It has nothing to do with blade play, it is if all the planets aligned on the night before the knife was made;). The holes with the rocker or in the bolster were not drilled right( without seeing it) and that puts the rocker high and low. They sometimes do things backward if the front of the rocker is too high by the blade they will sand it down to match the blade, leaving the rear low because it was not aligned from the beginning.

Here it is with the blade open. The last 2019 finger groove I bought was terrible the bolsters were sticking up and were sharper than the knife blade. LOL! I sanded them down and gave the knife to my brother-in-law, he uses the knives so it does not phase him what condition it was in, He thought it was brand new, actually it was but without the sharp edges. I would like to see yours if you can post a pic. Welcome to the forum.

normally they aren't all flush and perfect fitting, but that seems like a lot to me. I'd send it in.

If it is only cosmetic I may just deal with it since the lock up and less importantly the blade centering are good. Although it dose bug me. I can't remember were I read it but supposedly buck will not work on or replace this model since it is custom made for a dealer and I would need to go though the dealer.

If you wanted a replacement go through the dealer. Repair go through Buck, fill out the form on their web site and send it in.

Thanks for the info. I though it sounded strange that buck could not fix or replace a knife they made.

I bought it from copper and clad's store on amazon. I am trying to decide if I want to exchange it or if I want to return it. I think It would be an awesome hunting knife, but I have not had anywhere to hunt in two years lol

MI Yeti I just saw your pictures. I can't believe anyone would keep the knife that is in that condition. Being your first knife. Who is the one that will trade you that for a decent knife. There isn't a one that would keep a knife like that. Call Buck first and tell them what you are holding and they should offer a shipping ticket to ship it back to them. Ask for a different knife that went through Q.C. I really can't believe it everything is sticking out everywhere. Please let me know how it goes, there is no reason for the poor quality.

If you post your e-mail I will send you a nice knife no charge. We will communicate through e-mails. That knife should be left the way it is and if you ever take a trip to Post Falls show Joe Houser his Q.C. and what went out the door. I just feel bad that is your first Buck.

Yeah I was excited to have it until I noticed that none of my few cheap Chinese lock backs have the lock bar like that. Thank you very much for the offer, my email is Matte20@gmail.com

I am surprised Cooper and Clad accepts these knives from Buck. I have had to send several knives back to Copper and Clad who has taken care of me free of charge return shipping. Buck needs to see this to fix it and they win make it right.

yep. fairly common. doesnt bother me really just notice it once in a while.

My 501 from the custom shop is the same way. I was annoyed at first but the rest of the knife is rather nice. I got over it fairly quickly.

I've had zero issues from Buck, including product from Copper and clad.
