The temps have been in the 80s and 90s during the day but last night we had our first light frost which means that the first snow isn't too far away. With that in mind, I went to a small town across a mountain range from me to a small sporting goods store today that usually carries a fair selection of knives and came home with this Buck 55.

It's a neat little knife -- 3 3/8" long closed with a 2 3/8" long blade. Sort of a junior version of the Buck 110 and Buck 112 knives. The blade is very sharp out of the box.

I've had my Buck 55 for a few months and I've grown to love this little knife. The size is perfect for a "gentleman's" knife and it's ultra sharp. Enjoy.
As an aside: I live in South Florida...a little frost would be appreciated about now.

Hi,

Very nice. I'm not really a fan of the Buck lock-back family. But the 55 is the one I do want to own. I think the size is just right and it looks good at that size. It's on my list of wants too.

Nice one Ed. Another knife on my "short" list. I like the clip on that.

I've been wanting to pull the trigger on one of these recently as well.
Nice pick up Modoc ED.

Nice pick up Modoc ED.

They're cheap enough. I had my wallet out for a 110 @ 29 bucks(no pun intended):D. I fought the urge because I was going away on vacation. The
55's are a bit more than the 110.Why?

Nice knife, Ed! I've got one that rotates duty in my watch pocket with some other little fellas. Feels good in the hand and solid as a rock! Pinch it open; no need for the nail nick at all. And as you said, it's like a mini Buck 110 or 112 ..... that you can carry comfortably in any pocket!

Hi,

I think it's about production volume. I'm sure Buck sells way more 110's than 55's or even 112's.

I've been giving some thought to getting one of these for some time now to keep my 110 company. Actually, the 110 is just a little too big for EDC use for my purposes and I thought the 55 might just do the trick.

Would anyone have a pic of a 110 and a 55 side by side so I could compare them.

I got this one a while ago.

Gajinoz: This is kind of what you asked for: The 110 is the 2nd from the top / the 55 is on the bottom

Yes, thanks for the comparison pic. I've been looking at those Buck knives too, but found the 110 a bit too big for EDC. The one above the 55 is a 112?

Like that one

How is the ever present "lock back vertical play" on that one?

Ordered a full size Buck with finger grooves for some one and that one had considerable play in both directions.

The two Bucks in the only hardware over here have play as well (they ask about eur 70 for the 110 and eur 65 for the 112 :barf: )

I would looove to have the 55

Nice old school like myself ;)

They must have sent the ones with play to that store. :D
Seriously, I've owned many Buck lock backs over the years (including a recent 55) that had zero play with rock solid lock up. I'm sure some get through with play, but I'd be willing to bet the majority have none.
Of course it was nice when Buck shipped them in boxes so you could examine the knife before purchasing. Now everything comes in sealed clam packs. :(
