New Buck wood scales

I like the wood on m.. It looks a lot nicer, more character. My wife engraved the bolsters on a 113 about 3 years ago for a customer. Then I tuned up the edge and while working it I noticed the wood was dymondwood. So, some of you gents got lucky and they changed the wood to solid walnut for a run.? Great catch. DM

I like old boards, have some under shelter waiting to be re-purposed. I didn't say I didn't like it, just what it looked like. 300

I picked up a 55 a few months ago too, I think it's real walnut. It really stands out if you put a little mineral oil on them along with the brass bolsters.

We've been expecting this for a while given the old news about the plant burning, yes? Maybe a forthcoming spike in value of Dymondwood Bucks? I actually have grown to like it on my user knives.

I would prefer to see the 500 series go back to maroon Micarta, as the early ones were.

Would look good on the 110s and 112s too, as the early 112s showed.

Is the Walnut stabilized? It's not a horrible choice and probably makes the most sense for large capacity production. I can think of prettier wood though.

The contrast with the brass is similar to the dymondwood. That may have had something to do with the choice. I'll tell you this, I can easily make an indent with my thumbnail. So as far as longevity goes, that'll be interesting to watch. We'll see if it goes on anything other than a $30 or so knife....

Gotta go check out the Bucks available locally for me —

I appreciate the tough-duty resin-filled material for scales, but real wood always has a strong draw for me, even if not as durable. Plus if the wood isn't treated too much, you can always dye it and refinish it yourself for a custom job, much as people do with Opis.
