New Buckmaster Survival Knife

The biggest draw back on the original design were the anchors (too specialized),

the large sawteeth (more a hinderance then useful),

the sheath (tended to flop around - the suspension was later much improved for the M9-bayonet), a

nd the weight (it felt like a boat anchor - although some of that was probably the sheath, it is a very heavy knife).

So let me get this straight-
the saw is useless, the sheath stinks, the Ninja grappling hook is stupid, and it's too heavy. If you take away these flaws, it becomes a Kabar! LOL...

Soooo many opinions. IMHO, the knife represents a high quality version of a classic 80's style of blade and design that does have its place in the annals of edged implements. I for one would love to see a new version. By the way, not2sharp brings up a good point regarding the hollow handle juncture...as long as the attachment design is sound and manufactured under proper quality control measures, there is no reason why the hollow handle design should be dismissed and relegated to just Chris Reeve knives.

Facts,

We are all entitled to our opinions. What is your experience with the knife? Did it cut well and hold its edge well for you? Did the weight seem appropriate for the functionality? How did it chop? How did you like the sheath? How do you compare its blade/handle connection to the Randall or Garcia (Hackman) "Survival" knives? What did you do with the spikes -- carry them or leave them at home?

Color me confused, but what IS the actual purpose of the spikes? I mean, beyond making it suitable as a stage prop weapon for a Klingon on Star Trek?

Who would have thought that this "millstone" would become a "milestone"? What next, a re-issue of the Rogak P18? :barf:

That the Buckmaster was put into great use by the SF community...

used as trading items and gifts to indig-friendlies... the unique shape of the blade and anchors made it an instant status symbol and eye-catcher.

hearsay... of course.
