Still toying with scandi grinds and this one is a little better than the last so I guess that practice stuff really does work
Freehand scandi grinds are NOT easy! I also tried out a new handle material I picked up at the last knifeshow. I'll be danged if I can find the info sheet right now though
It is made in a very similar process to micarta but using polymer instead of phenolics. It has a texture very similar to canvas micarta that is wet. You know how the canvas micarta's exposed fibers swell a little and give it some texture? This is like that even dry
Not the prettiest material due to the heavy texturing and some minute pores but as a working handle material I REALLY like it! This is a sample green and I am hoping they come out with a darker OD style green in the future. For the blade I used 1/8in thick 1095 and ground it to a true zero edge. It was sharpened on a Sharpmaker so it has a very slight secondary bevel. I prefer my scandis like that so they stay a little nicer looking and it also keeps the very edge from being too thin IMO.I went a little larger for this one at 9 9/16 overall with a 4 5/8 blade(tip to handle). Still a very useful size but with just a tad more reach than I usually see on Bushys. For fittings, I have used two flared stainless tubes and 1 mosaic pin. I still need to sheath it but that will wait till the next time the Kydex is cooking
