Not much changing this year....mostly just a return to thumbgrooves that are highly functional and throw a wicked spark on a firesteel!

Specs:

  • 8.5" overall
  • 4" blade (*true* 4 inches no matter how you measure it ;))
  • 4.5" handle

Blade
  • CPM 3V steel, heat-treated by Peter's to 60 HRc (each blade is individually tested for hardness!)
  • *TRUE* Sandi-grind set at 12.5 degrees - perfectly flat - NO microbevel
  • Blade flats have "rubbed" finish - beadblasted and brushed with a Scotchbrite pad - easy to maintain/restore!
  • 0.140" thick and aprox. 1" tall blade, full tang construction

Handle
  • Handle materials vary - ALL synthetics are **Heavily** bead-blasted for a Super-Grippy texture. ALL hardwoods are handrubbed with Briwax to a matte shine (most durable/restorable finish).
  • One corby pin and one lanyard, chamfered
  • Handle fronts are tapered and curved - for easy-in/out of sheaths
  • Handle slabs are 3/8" thick

The knife is guaranteed never to fail - you break it, I will replace it.
(excepting extreme abuse)

Pricing for 2011 will start at $155

Sheath is by JRE Industries
www.jreindustries.com/koster.htm (more versions available)
Includes loop for a firesteel

Price is $35

Firesteel is by Light My Fire: Army Model
Comes with a striker, but if you have this knife, you won't need it!

Price is $15

I plan on doing another run of these later this year - probably not until late Spring.

It might be an option....but I'd be more likely to use a Sandvik stainless like 12C27 or 13C26. That would be the cat's meow...a Scandinavian steel with a Scandinavian grind. ;)

It's fairly easy to sharpen and has a very high degree of stain-resistance (think 440 series). But with more carbon, finer grain and Sandvik's very impressive foundry skills behind it.

Sweet looking knife. I agree that the desert ironwood looks very tempting.

The sheath seem very practical too. Reminds me a bit of the bushcraft sheaths from Bark River, which I happen to like.

And the price is very reasonable for a custom made knife.
