A very nice little folder came today. Until now my smallest spydy was either the Police or Chinook3 depending on how you measured so I needed a little EDC folder. I considered the Polliwog but really it was more for looks and novelty.
This Caly3 was definitly my first choice.

I do have a couple questions?

What does the 117V mean and what is the little symbol on the other side?

Is this really the best EDC folder on the market?

Also any nice Caly3 photos would be awesome?

"117" is a number of the collectors' club member. "V" means it is a variant of Caly3 model.

The "symbol on the other side" is logo of Sal Glesser (designer of the knife).

As for your second question: it is individual.

Thank you very much ,Huuugh. So all the numbers are different like serial numbers?

That is a rather nice personal logo Sal.

As for the "is it the best EDC question ,what I am really after is personal opinions from a variety of people? So far I am pretty ipressed although the edge needs a bit of a touch up to actually shave hair. The fit and finish are great even for Spyderco and I love the CF scales. The ergonomics are great and I love how it is pretty much invisible clipped to a pocket. I will take some photos with what used to be my favourite EDC folder the quite similar Lambert Whar. The Lambert is a tiny bit bigger also has CF scales but also timascus bolsters and even has a spider emblem.

My gosh I just cut some thick cardboard with this little monster!!! It was like no other knife even my beloved Mule could not slice through cardboard like that.
I was just astounded. I take back what I said about it not being shaving sharp. It is a different kind of sharp. It was much much better than any exacto knife.
It took no force it just sailed through it. I did not even have to slice just push cut. I wish i had more than 10X magnifacation to look at the edge.

I recently bought one (Carbon Fiber with ZDP/420J2) and am fairly impressed. I like both the looks and the feel of the knife.

However, I do have one complaint and one suggestion.

The pivot action of the blade was a little tighter than I am used to. This is the first Spyderco knife that I've purchased. I used a 3/32 hex key to adjust the play and have stripped the head! :grumpy: Luckily it's not too loose or too tight. I am now at a loss of what to do. I didn't know what Spyderco would suggest. Does anyone have a suggestion to this problem?

The edges of the carbon fiber scales are a little sharp. I wish they were rounded a little. I may attempt to either file or grind them to attempt and achieve a smoother grip.

My edges have a bit of a bevel. If it was a fully hand made custom they would be a little slicker maybe but they do make for a nice feel. The lock up is perfect as well.

I would consider sending it back to Spyderco for the stripped screw. Or you could remove and replace it yourself or ignore it until it acts up.

Hex key!!!!????? That was th problem; it should have been a torx not a hex. If I was you; I would make a post in STR's subforum of this website. He is a knife tinkerer/craftsman and would have valuable advice on how to extract that stripped head. :)

Actually, I am in possession of the best EDC in the world. I am under agreement not to divulge the identity of this knife, but I can tell you it's one of a kind, priceless, nothing exists like it before or since. It has a perpetual razor edge that gets sharper with use, never rusts, and is completely indestructible.

I can also tell you that the blade is made from a special metal called Unobtainium. The handle material is a special laminate that is made from material harvested from neutron stars, yet is light as a feather. I would sell it to you, but it's worth more money than any one nation on earth possesses, so it would have to be an international effort.

Yep, it's as good an EDC as it gets. I just wish it fit my hand. :(

THG,

Do you know if the Caly3 has washers or not?

I can't see as the pivot screw is stripped.

I do see a scrape developing on the blade. I wonder if this is because it doesn't have washers

I had used both a 2.5 mm and 3/32" hex key and they both had a little play in them but were very close fitting to one another.

I believe that it does NOT have washers. At least this is what the others have said on other threads. I was saying that this might explain why it's "hard to open?" Just speculating.
