New Canal Street Swell Center

I'll let you know on Monday if they're in Atlanta. I am guessing they will be.

This guy won't be available until maybe around Fall of this year. There is to date, just this one Prototype in existence. I tried to talk the nice lady at their booth at Blade out of it but she wasn't budgin'. It was on display for feedback and suggestions. Gonna hafta wait.

I spoke with them a few months ago about this knife, they were having trouble figuring out a way to pin that rear cap solidly to avoid any twist, and they were so busy with other projects that they temporarily shelved it. It'd definitely be good to see it produced.

Since they're looking for feedback, what do you guys see as possible improvements (that don't involve re-designing the whole knife)?

If you did get to handle this particular knife, keep in mind that it is a Proto and mostly a rough assembly of what they intend on producing. Small errors are common on such knives and the inconsistancies that you noticed on this Proto will doubtfully be in the finish product. That being said, the only thing that I would suggest would be a longer and wider master blade. Not much more than what is in the Proto but a bit more to fill the frames length and a bit wider to raise the long pull. The additional length would also allow extending the pull a bit further past the secondary blade. They are also considering using 440C or D2. Not both as an option. That is what I understood from my conversation with their Rep. I would suggest the D2. Not only for the steel itself but to avoid any misconceptions of it being 440A or B or one of the other 400 series steels. Too many people don't realize the difference between 440C and the others and with D2 there would not be a contoversy. It is a good sized knife that fills the hand well and should prove to be a tough and good looking piece. My 2 cents.

I handled it Friday. I left the rep my number so he can call me when it's released, maybe he will. He said probably December on the release by the way.
I thought the knife was a great length, but it is very thick. That isn't a problem, but you do notice it. I kinda like it, but it could be thinner. I'm afraid it will be hard to front pocket comfortably with some pants.
It has a capped bolster which I didn't pick up on in the pic in this post. I am sure that limits the length of the blades and could leave you with the impression that the main blade is a little short.
The long pull on the Clip blade runs into the swedge just a little bit. That needs to be corrected IMO.
The action on the blades was real nice as I recall, and the overall size and shape of both I would not change.
I distinctly remember the two springs being different lengths, and I THINK (someone correct me if I am wrong) that they are not flush in all three positions. Both of those are deal breakers for me so I really hope that is just a product of being the first and only prototype.
The jigging, and color of the scales was great. Dont change anything there.
All in all a REALLY nice knife.

Generally the knife looks fine to me! Although when you first look at the knife the pull on ther main blade does not look straight, also I think the swedge needs to be more pronounced, just as the knives did in yesteryear, the pattern being similar to a Schrade Cut Co knife from the 1930's.

canal street cutlery has it for sale. 400 pcs limited run. choice of the two steels.

I see that. I followed the order procedure up to the point where they want credit card info and they didn't ask about steel choice, that is as far as I went. I wonder how many people have ordered one?

If you order one let us know how that works out.

From what was said on the posts; blade length, rear bolster, a little fat for front pocket. I'm not sure if i would buy one. The price was high for a knife with so many????????????? I would have to see one. Maybe they will make some improvements. I would like the choice of that d2 steel also. I do like the style. Something to think about. Thanks. Thank you all for the informative posts.

This is the Schrade Cut. Co. knife that Canal street used as inspiration for that knife, guys and dolls.
Their proto is a departure, but nice in its own right. The Cut. Co. has a very full cross section, as you can see from the seal cap.
